BT Street Hubs - discussion

Good evening long time lurker here my name Declan and I've been very interested in the street hub roll out for a long time and the area where I live in North Wales is also getting 6 BT Street hubs with the announcement 2 weeks ago with more being launched within the next decade it will be interesting to see if more come to Wales.

I'm a frequent visitor to Liverpool where they got quite a lot I use the Wi-Fi on them and the speed is quite good.
Does the WiFi on them even travel far? I can't really test considering we have BT WiFi from Street Hubs and just general city centre WiFi they've installed years ago

Welcome to the forums 👋

Welcome along to the forums Dec244. :)

At least you've seen one, I've not even come across one trailing all round Glasgow city centre.

Perhaps I just missed them as there are plenty of ad boards that look very similar, will need to pay attention next visit.😊

I think there's one or two in Luton town centre on George Street as they have digital advertising on both sides plus they have a help point built in.

Haven't really taken much notice of them to be fair as my commute to and from work doesn't take me that way.

I did have a brief look a while back for an online location map for them, but couldn't find anything that would help locate where they are, you'd think that there would be.

I'm heading past that area next Thursday so will have a closer look.

Oh I saw a few black ones but they had local store ads on them, don't think they were hubs I saw though.

It travels throughout the city centre they even deploying more into towns and villages outside Liverpool as well also when you do connect to the WiFi on the street hubs they automatically connect recognise your phone for the next time you visit.

The other black ones might be from a different company but there easy to find they recently got them deployed in Dundee and Kilmarnock as well.

Oh I could maybe find the one in Kilmarnock then, that's much handier than Glasgow.👍
Will visit soon for an investigation. 😊

Luton, I don't need to go though passport control at the border as I would have had to if I was entering the People's Republic of Scotland ;)
Let me know if the Street Hubs are advertising "Luton is the worst place to live in the UK" 😂

(I don't actually believe that for 5 seconds, our city sucks a bit with unfortunately high amounts of homelessness and drug addicts)

Aw I know it's quite a palaver and they speak a bit on the fast side too, I really haven't a clue what they're saying, probably best sticking with Luton.😊

It depends on which part of Luton though, there are some nicer areas and as well as some areas best avoided.

I can think of other places that are just as bad, Galashields north of the border and Sheerness in Kent are places where you really don't want to get off if you can help it.

Believe it or not I can actually understand them quite clearly and I have a Northern accent.
I know, every one loves a Scottish call centre right? 🙄😊
I wonder if there's any left though, I remember Sky had one in Livingston many moons ago.

I know SES had one as I had my as my utility provider when I first moved down here.

As to the street hubs themselves I can confirm that BT has least 3 fitted on George Street which are the V2 models as they have 5G fitted.

Speeds are actually quite good too!

Looking forward to BT rolling out many more!

Just to point out that on my walk though the area this morning I managed to connect to BT Wifi though one of the Street Kiosks V2s which was free and very fast BUT BT seem to have two Wifi plans.

I was connected to BT Wifi which is free but while in The Mall I managed to pick up EE Wifi which has paid access, just thought I mention it.

In any case, there's not much seating around the one I connected to which is something the local council needs to address but I found the whole process fast and easy enough, should mean I automatically connect next time I'm in range of one right?
