BT Street Hubs - discussion

I didn't pay much attention to them other than take that piccy, will check them out more thoroughly next visit.

Strangely enough there was a few people charging their phones at a good few of them.

I didn't think anyone would bother with them.

Nice someone has also mapped on in Ipswich on Google maps although there currently no picture of it.
Nice, I haven't had much results with searching up BT Street Hub on Google Maps mostly here unfortunately, people don't really map them

I tried mapping a few here but Google Maps seems to make the location a bit inaccurate unfortunately (e.g. putting them inside buildings)

Here's another one of the 11 Glasgow hubs I found on my last visit. (Sauchiehall Street)
Once you've seen one, you've seen them all though. 😊

The silver ones are the original ones, rolled out 2017-2018. i'm not sure whether any have 4G though?

the black ones are newer and at least some (maybe all?) have 4G

Yes they all look pretty old in Glasgow hammy, not sure, but I don't think they do have any cellular connections.

Not seen any different from the Glasgow ones yet, didn't notice any at all on my Edinburgh visit, although I'm sure they'll be there too.

The silver ones look nice in all honesty, all ours here are black ones.

I'm not sure whether all of ours have 4G (on EARFCN 1791 and 3026), I tried seeing whether one was broadcasting yesterday (since 4 out of 5 I've seen broadcasting 4G) but I do wonder whether the Street Hubs turn the 4G off or something when it's not busy. Is that possible?

i've found the handover on them really dodgy because they use different EARFCN's to the macro grid. so actually getting connected to them can be difficult. cycling flight mode can help connect to them sometimes.

Yeah, that's the same here, although I'm using a Firsty eSIM meanwhile you're using proper EE.

I also find it with the O2 Store Pico Cell too sometimes (although it's probably better not connecting to B20 6400).

They launched another street hub in Blackpool this time on the pavement near the beach normally when planning approve the bt street hub should be deployed within 6 to 9 months but this one took longer than usual due to a planning appeal. When the roll out properly begins in 2025 it will be interesting to see which new locations they deploye them to weather it's in England, Wales ect.

I think 3 have been approved here but haven't been installed; one near a Three PoW (which EE isn't on unfortunately, although I think a 30MHz deployment is a bad idea considering it's right by a stadium), one by another Three PoW + some commercial buildings and another by the leisure centre I believe. Hoping these get installed since they might provide a small boost in coverage and a boost in capacity (the fact that EE already has 120MHz of capacity from just micro cells in the city centre alone, when some networks struggle for capacity is just embarrassing).

I'm still trying to figure out whether there's a 4G micro in the remaining Street Hub (that hasn't been mapped by Cellmapper)

I thought I had seen one out and about somewhere but for the life of me I cannot recall the location, maybe I'll notice it when I'm out again in a couple days or so

Tried looking on Cellmapper and couldn't see anything in your area, might be unmapped lol

Usually they start with a 4xxxx eNB (I say usually not because I've ever seen a Street Hub start with another digit but some macro sites share it, we have a monopole that starts with a 4)

Which area is that for the 3 that have been approved 😊

One in Greenford is 24985, although the other one I picked up for the first time indeed begins with a 4.

Had to check it on Street View for myself, thanks for that info!

I'd pull up the planning applications but local council website is pulling certificate date invalid errors atm
It's more like 7 actually

[redacted, begins with S] Road (it's a B road iirc)
[redacted, two words (beginning with S and A)] Way A4xx
[redacted, begins with B] Way A4xx
Station Road (that's generic enough lol, although they're constantly doing work on the station anyways and I don't know where the phone box is)
Possibly two Street Hubs on [redacted, begins with E] Street (there's already 2 on it though)
[redacted, begins with C] Street
[redacted, begins with K] Road A4xx
