BT test line

I'm trying to setup bt_test@startup_domain in my router settings to test my connection.

It was easy enough to set up using old modem but can't seem to get router to connect.

I'm changing user name in setup and putting in adsl as password but it still won't connect to the bt test line.

Only guesses, but my brain is feeling rather mashed right now :(

I hope this helps works for me

Instructions For Connecting As SpeedTester

Disconnect your broadband service from your Service Provider completely by clicking 'disconnect' on your Internet connection window.

Connect to the Speedtester domain by entering speedtest@speedtest_domain in the userID field in your connection window, no password is required.

Once connected, start a web browser and enter the the speedtester URL (http://speedtester.bt.com/) to access the speedtester server.

You will then be presented with the "Speedtester home page" screen and you can perform a speed test.

The connection will disconnect automatically after a few minutes and you will need to reconnect to your normal service provider.

Start from the beginning.

Is it a new router and what make and model is it?

routers are a little more complex but when you know then they are like little computers of there own and need setting up so give me what set up you have and i will advise to what i can.

There's nothing wrong with the reuter setup.

It's a BT problem and has been ongoing since before I got the reuter.

Since the 1mb upgrade by pipex I have constant disconnections.

I bought the reuter to see if it helped the problem but it still exists.

Pipex has asked me to connect using the bt test line before they can escalate the problem to BT.

An engineer from BT has already told me there is a contention problem with my line and it is exceedly worse when it is bad weather.

The router I am using is linksy WAG 354G.

I was able to setup the bt test line no problem with my old alcatel modem but can't seem to do it with the router.

If it worse when it rains then it is down to to the bt line/equipment then you need to push BT to do something about it instead of accepting it & regrading to a lower speed.

How right you are but have you ever tried getting BT to admit to it being their fault.

The last engineer I had to the house told me there was a contention problem but that BT are not prepared to do anything about it as it would be too costly.

I managed eventually to get the BT test line to work. Must have been doing something wrong in router setup.

I kept it up all night and it retained the connection but then it was a fine dry night last night.

The bloke from pipex is phoning me tomorrow afternoon. I just know he is going to say it's not a BT fault but then it's like going to the dentist, your toothache always goes away the minute you're called in. :)

Nice man phoned me from Pipex and said it is definitely a BT fault.

He also said that BT is charging Pipex for a service that can't be provided to their customers.

He is referring my complaint to BT and backdating all my previous BT problems which I have been getting fobbed off with for years from BT :)

I'm not suprised, I always tell my customers not to believe everything that BT tells them.
Unfortunately I get to see my customers after BT have had them reformatting their drive etc.

Just an update..............

BT engineer came yesterday and for once they sent me an engineer who knew something about BB.

He fitted new cable from pole to the house, which I have been saying for years was faulty but BT wouldn't listen to me.

My connection has now been running 24 hours without a single disconnection.

I would also like to add that Pipex should have been pushing my complaints more vigourously with BT as I had been suffering a poor connection for 2 years.

I was told to buy a new modem and that would solve things, then I was told to buy a router and things would be fine.

It was the line all along. When are BT going to listen to their customers. :(

To be fair, even then it's not always possible. You could have a brand spanking new line and your ISP could be offering 4mbps; but if you're 8km from the exchange, it's unlikely to happen.

Maybe this ADSL 2+ fancy thing will be able to sort out some of the extended reach issues...

Have you read the whole thread? It was disconnections & not speed issues.

I certainly have; but as has been pointed out the issue was caused be a regrade to 1mbps. What I'm simply pointing out is that it's not in every case that installing a new line solves disconnections, and even speed issues on top of that. No sweat :)

As Pcblues mentioned it definitely was a BT problem as I have never had a speed problem during all my time with Pipex and I have been with them for over 2 years.

The 1mb certainly exaggerated the problem but it was always there, even on dialup.

Connection is still going strong and have had no further disconnections or speed problems.

Read the whole thread & taken it in?
In light of Nitrogen's post, what is the point in your post?
I could understand it if you posted it earlier in the thread.

What I'm simply pointing out is that it's not in every case that installing a new line solves disconnections, and even speed issues on top of that.
But maybe in this case eh?

Your asking me to relax, why bother to send a pm if you want me to relax.

Didn't you like what I said about BT?

If I misunderstood the point of your post I apologise.

What "laundry" was I taking to a public forum?

There really is no need to "welcome" me to the world of private messaging.
