It was easy enough to set up using old modem but can't seem to get router to connect.
I'm changing user name in setup and putting in adsl as password but it still won't connect to the bt test line.

Have you read the whole thread? It was disconnections & not speed issues. To be fair, even then it's not always possible. You could have a brand spanking new line and your ISP could be offering 4mbps; but if you're 8km from the exchange, it's unlikely to happen.
romerogoon said:I certainly have; but as has been pointed out the issue was caused be a regrade to 1mbps. What I'm simply pointing out is that it's not in every case that installing a new line solves disconnections, and even speed issues on top of that. No sweat![]()
Just an update..............
BT engineer came yesterday and for once they sent me an engineer who knew something about BB.
He fitted new cable from pole to the house, which I have been saying for years was faulty but BT wouldn't listen to me.
My connection has now been running 24 hours without a single disconnection.
I would also like to add that Pipex should have been pushing my complaints more vigourously with BT as I had been suffering a poor connection for 2 years.
I was told to buy a new modem and that would solve things, then I was told to buy a router and things would be fine.
It was the line all along. When are BT going to listen to their customers.
But maybe in this case eh?What I'm simply pointing out is that it's not in every case that installing a new line solves disconnections, and even speed issues on top of that.
