BT Test

Hi

I have noticed that download speeds can be a bit slow sometimes, so I found the BT Test site to test my connection (217.32.105.42). The results are below

IP profile for your line is - 4500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 5184 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1014 kbps

The "Actual IP Throughput" section says that its 1014kbps, is this something I should be concerned with? as you can see above I would have expected 5184kbps.

Me being a complete novice everything DSL, any advice/feedback wud be appreciated!

You should expect a throughput of something around 4500 kbps as that is what your profile is set to.

Speeds issues can be caused by exchange or isp problems, but I would always looks closer to home first. Scan the machine for spyware/viruses and if you have more than one machine connected leave one connected and run the test again.

You should be looking at a max speed of approx 500Kbps less than your profile, so you should get in the region of 4000Kbps. You could have a very congested exchange. Try running the speedtester at off peak times and see what you get.
