BT Wifi question

I'm currently staying at a little hotel down in Bournemouth, and the WiFi is terrible, and my three SIM is giving me less than 1mbit internet. There's a BT WiFi hotspot nearby that has a good signal, but if I sign into it, it wants me to pay.

What's the deal with BT Mobile / EE ? Are they the same now ? If you are an EE customer, can you access BT WiFi ? Because you can't seem to even buy a BT Mobile contract, it takes you to the EE shop.

Yes you can access BT WiFi as an EE customer. On the sign in page at the top where it asks for an email addess, press the drop down where BT WiFi shows and choose EE Mobile.

Cool. Thanks. I don't have EE myself, but my partner's work phone is on EE. Will give it a try later on when i'm back there.

I thought it was certain historic contracts.

Those with both BT broadband and EE can utilise both WIFI hotspots (EE on SIM Bt by ID).

BT is not consolidating brands. In fact the opposite. Plusnet no frills (inc legacy LLU issues), EE broadband with mobile. BT Consumer with include package wrap with resilience and BT Voice etc.

I currently have access to BT WIFI, EE public WiFi , Virgin and Sky (the cloud) and it is surprising how many times I use one of them despite the mobile tech I usually have on me.

Sorry to bump the old thread but it seems like this isn’t the case anymore or it’s really unclear. Any updated info? Some pages say yes and some say no on EEs site
I used it the other day in the hairdressers. I can’t remember the exact process but it went something along the lines of pressing sign in, choosing BT broadband and logging in with the BT ID.

Would love to see that statement now with Plusnet shutting down mobile services soon, the fastest broadband speeds being only available on EE

BT actively pushing EE migrations and offering discounts for EE broadband + mobile (£10/mo unlimited iirc)

Was it ever available for EE PAYM customers?
On their website it suggests you can connect to 150k hotspots aswell as London Underground under EEWifiAuto but this isn’t broadcasting from EEWiFi hotspots down here. Works fine on the tube when im up in London

Doesn't really tell whether you can use an EE SIM only to sign on though

BT Mobile price increased all my SIMs by £4 each, and then offered me more data at a way cheaper price on EE. Essentially forced me off. When you consider the daily roaming charges etc I probably would’ve broken even staying on BTMobile and ultimately it seems like you still get BTWiFi and EU roaming from that

How long has BT Mobile been dead again? I wonder whether they'll drag Plusnet out too

It's been dead for like 9 months now

In fairness I don’t think anyone was expecting the rapid destruction of BTs Consumer services and “child” brands like Plusnet. Since the few months since the comment things changed very fast

It is available for EE customers now yea. You can sign in with My EE and it will let you on.

In terms of back end operations, it's weirdly been the opposite case. New EE Customers using BT Consumer systems whereas migrations come down to "whats cheaper for the customer?" and confusion as it's a 50/50 gamble on what brandings on the equipment.

The initial rumblings were to have BT become Businesss and Global, while EE became residential but it seems a far longer process than initially anticipated. And even the outward advertising is a bit baffling unless the hope is just to keep mentioning "powered by BT!" enough times to make it feel one and the same.

It'll be the same as BT Mobile; You can keep it and nothing will change. Recontract? Off to EE with automatic 10% discount if you have BT Broadband. Stripping down Plusnet to just Broadband is the most sensible option for them. Though weirdly does seem to attract the younger market that EE is aiming for!

This is what I’ve found:
- EE mobile customers don’t have access to the full BT/EE WiFi hotspot network
- There are 150k hotspots that EE Mobile customers can access automatically with the SSID EEWiFiAuto, afaik none are near me

I’ve been able to connect to BT/EE WiFi hotspots by logging into the BT WiFi app with my old BT Broadband credentials. I haven’t had BT Broadband for nearly a year, so it shouldn’t work, but it does
