BT Yahoo Broadband = SLOW!

Is anyone on here experiencing problems of late with BT Yahoo Broadband?

To cut a long story short before going about the latest issue, earlier this year I had problems after BT upgraded my connection from 512k to 2meg and after lots of telephone calls to their rather poor support (bar for one customer support advisor who was helpful) eventually a "lift and shift" was done in the exchange (area code 01978) and after that the connection was OK.

However since the turn of December I have noticed that it has been extremely slow connecting to webservers, the download speeds for file transfers are OK, between 180kb/s and 230kb/s, but apart from that it is as if I'm using 56K dialup, images in particular load very slowly and even UK-based servers take a long time just to respond. I've asked people I know with other ISP's to test the same servers to see if its a server rather than an ISP error but they reported no slowdowns.

I phoned up BT this morning and they're adamant that there are no problems with the network but I know 3 other people in the same area code who use BT Broadband are also experiencing speed issues. Is there anyone here who uses BT from OTHER areas who are encountering similar issues?

The SamKnows database hasnt been updated it seems since august for a lot of exchanges, the Namesco one seems to be updated weekly.

i think things may improve for you after the 21st...

or switching provider may help too - as your current provider may well have oversubscribed their central pipes....

It's strange really, as I only tend to see the slowdowns during browsing - speed tests at adsl guide and download speeds are always spot on. It'll be interesting to see what it's like after the upgrade tomorrow. :D

EDIT: Sorry about taking the thread off-topic!

Samknows is normally out of date as they are a uni student and dont have time, If the exchange is showing as red then that will be why your getting the slow speeds at peek times and its the whole exchange apart from LLU providers that will be getting the speed problems.

The date for the upgrade wont be set in stone and could be a few days after but it all depends on what BT work over Christmas.
