Bulldog, ADSL and Street Lamps

I Just had an interesting conversation with Bulldog. My line now plays up after 7pm every night for about a week now. I called bulldog and after the usual waiting got through to a guy who told me that the problems I am having (all of a sudden after years of near perfect service) are caused by the street lamps sucking power from my router. Of course I laughed and he told me he was serious, I then asked to speak to someone else so he put me on hold (for 50 million years) after which I hung up and redialled and finally spoke to someone else (Jamie) who was very helpful indeed but also commented that this may be true. But since the street lamps come on a good 2 hours earlier than my problems start he concluded that it probably wasn't the problem, not to mention my line isn't anywhere near a street lamp. My service is perfect during the day.
I also told him my friend about 2 miles away has the same problem who is with BT instead of Bulldog but the same exchange. So the problem might be with the exchange. I then was passed on to a technical support person who changed my profile slightly which seemed to make no difference (fob off I think), and so I await tonight's ups and downs.
I wonder how many other people are being told this and whether there is any truth to it after years of near perfect connection quality.

Makes you wonder doesn't it.....

I don't think the suggestion of teh street lamps is that far fetched.

I seem to recall that there were posts on here a few years back about the problems of flashing christmas lights affecting the broadband signal. Something about being a similar frequency

street lamps have been known to cause problems, it is a well known fact!

We have at least one customer with this problem

Anyone remember the BOFH and his flippad of 'Excuses of the day'?

(If your not sure what the BOFH is then google it and be prepared to laugh!)

There are many things that can effect the connection of ADSL from street lights, xmas tree lights, dect phones, plasma TVs the list is very long. one thing to try is check your internal wiring following this information here

If you ever see a bin graph from the ADSL frequencies being used u will notice that the 64k bin is never used because the lights in the exchange are on the same frequency.

The cheap B+Q flashing lights knock out ADSL, as do some Amercan electrical items such as laptop power supplies, I have heard of the problem of street lights causing these kind of intermittent connections.

Have you checked ur side filters router etc, could be something is going faulty and unable to hold the connection properly with a low SNR margin.
