Calls/Texts on Ethernet

Anyone out there figured out how to get calls and texts on iPhone or Android using ethernet tethering? No other text apps.

I will be interested in the replies you get and may revisit this again myself.

To use unlimited minutes on a tethered phone I have used either a Jack to Cell or Link to Mobile for a corded phone.

Or a conference speaker and voice control.

You can also use Windows Phone link https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...-windows-2e4bb4c0-f99a-4464-92a8-5264c7c39734 or Your Phone/Companion from Samson /Google Store.

These all work via Bluetooth pairing so you need to be within range of the phone.

Apple have similar legacy but also now support WIFI Calling from other Apple devices (FaceTime) if supported by the carrier and texts are managed in iMessage.

What do you mean exactly? Get them on your PC instead or..?

Okkkkk I’m not as tech savvy or as tech lipped as most people on this site, clearly. My boss has a thing against emf/rf radiation so he insists on using airplane mode and use hard wired internet. However, thus far, I haven’t found anything that allows texts or calling to work properly while connected using a Ethernet dongle to a Verizon carrier iPhone. And not through having to get another phone number and use another texting app. So I’m to see if there are solutions to this? Does that make sense?

So you have a boss that does not want either WIFI or mobiles in use in his premises? Misguided to say the least.

You have an iPhone that you are connecting via an Ethernet adaptor to a fixed network source?

Never need to test this way round ( which I will later.

First thought is to leave iPhone in car or at home and use alternative apple device for calls and texts. But I’ll need to investigate if nobody else can suggest a solution.

To confirm you are tethering with Hotspot OFF?

I'm pretty sure Wi-Fi calling is tied to Wi-Fi and will not work any other way. The clue is in the name I'm afraid.

Wi-Fi calling in devices has various hand-off tasks it gives the radio modem, this radio modem is not in use with a tethered connection. Certainly with Android all the configuration for Qualcomm chips is tied into Wi-Fi settings and functions from what I've seen of them in the firmware.

There is a workaround, at least if you are on Android, but might work on iPhone, too:
1 - Get a VOIP number and VOIP desktop app ( or phone that can use RJ45 ethernet cable and can also do SMS)
2 - for calls enable Call Forwarding to the VOIP number
3 - find some app that can read and forward your SMS to another number, or can send the messages via email - I used this in the past with some app from f-droid app store.

Good luck!

Apple Continuity software only works if devices are connected to the same WIFI and logged into iCloud ID.

However better news.

Test iPhone 13mini
UK EE network
WIFI off
Personal Hotspot off
Mobile Data off
WIFI calling ON

Ethernet adaptor connected to home network
USB 10/100 Lan enabled

Incoming and outgoing calls to mobiles
Incoming and outgoing calls to landlines
Texts between iPhone and iPhone and Android phones
Safari browser

So you should be OK simply connected to the LAN by Ethernet. The lead length is probably the only issue.

Hope Verizon/plan supports WIFI calling

Lol, it sounds wild to most people. But he’s actually really cool. Some people don’t like to intake all the radiation and pollution that as society we don’t even consider because it’s our everyday lives, but I respect it.

Lucian,

I really appreciate you giving me advice and answering the question without negative comment. He does have an iPhone currently but we will test this out. I think moving back to androids is the move based on all the feedback I’ve received thus far for compatibility purposes. We actually do use 8x8 Desktop Portal so I will try this out and look for another app for the text message forwarding. 🙏🏼 I felt like it should be easy but I’m clearly not tech savvy.
Seriously, thanks.

Concerns about emf/rf radiation, I have worked in such places,
the OP does not mention his sector of employment.

Perhaps the employer wants full focus on the day job.

Can you just not leave your phone at home connected to an online pc and remote control it?

I've used team viewer to remote on Android phones
