Hi All

I have just moved from Somerset to Hampshire but before I did I check out as to what kind of sped to expect well BT checker coughed up with 5.5 or greater?. Well the first 30 hours was great 6.2mb then by the Friday evening it had dropped from 85% to 20% to just above 1mb? I sent emails to my ISP they have now come back with that BT excuse is that there a lot of other surfers on line @ the same time!! I have gone on BT checker only to find that they have changed it from 5.5mb to 2mb or greater?. So in a nut shell yes BT are capping our lines and as they hold the monopoly over the lines we the customers have no say in it  BT UP TO THEIR TRICKS AS THE NORM!!!

seems we share the same county :p having the same issue, however its just been brought up as a fault due to the fact my MSR (Max Sync Rate) and FTR (Fault Threshold Rate) seem to indicate an issue along with the fact my line stats are abysmal at the moment.

got a phone call from my isp provider this morning aparently bt had cut my speed down to 4mb but have now moved it back to 6.5 it still doesnt add up that before i was with cr4p 4 i had 8mb no probs now after leaving its nothing but hassel with line speeds

Dare I ask have you posted your router SNR and Attenuation figures so we can comment if it is a change in line conditions that have caused this. I've seen your profile stats in the original post, but no router atten/SNR figures..

hiya petek this was a speed test from their site

Ok, I don't like dissing fellow providers, but there are a couple of issues here.

Firstly I thought FMN was an Enta reseller. Judging by their pricing, they aren't or if they are they are an L2TP partner utilising their own transit.

Issue 1:
77 1 * * * Request timed out.
2 141 ms 150 ms 137 ms ge3-bas2.sov.fmn.uk.net [217.144.150.82]

The second hop is their LNS termination by the look of it. For you to get 141ms to that is err pretty rubbish. There are three possible causes:
1. You have loads of contention on your exchange, shockingly loads
2. You were beating up your connection when you performed the test
3. FMN have no Central capacity left and need to buy somemore!

You would expect (dependent on where you are in the country) something between about 15 and 35ms to that hop.

Second problem is that they buy "value" transit from Cogent. It is not the best reputed stuff in the world and it wasn't that long ago they were giving away ports for a year free of charge to try and get people to commit to using it. Personally (and before the slating starts! - PERSONALLY) I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

As a comparison (from Leeds on IPStream ADSL) I have 21ms first hop to LNS in London and get to your destination in a respectable 126ms.

oh forgot this was taken just after 6pm
big difference from this morning
