Can i have a phone line installed into a CCTV Colomn

Hi,
Apologies if this is in the wrong section.

I have been asked to install a public WiFi system into a small village and been advised by the local borough council that we can use an existing CCTV column. I need to get a phone line installed and was wondering if Openreach would install a line directly into the CCTV column.

I haven't tried to order one yet as i have no idea how to explain the address of the line install or if they would even take the order. There are several shops nearby that all have phone lines, there are no telegraph poles but there are BT / Post office manhole covers so i presume all telephone lines are underground already.

Does anyone know if this is possible

Thanks.

Yes it's possible It's how most city centre WIFI works already. It would be installed into the base with possibly it's own cabinet.

My town has it - and as it's in the CCTV towers the control centre has all the guts to work the WIFI in their data centre.

I used to work in it :)

Like AA says, yes. You can get a phone line installed in most places (permanent and temporary).

When ordering the line, the supplier would have to create a new address (i.e pole xyz, street, postcode etc) and then select the type of "site". There may very well be a cost too if there is no ducting to the pole from BT's network and you'll probably be expected to pay for that (and quoted prior to the work proceeding).

You will not be able to get something like this from BT Retail, as it is a special install you can speak with BT Business or any other phone line provider that does business lines, it will take longer (we did one a couple of years ago) and it can be a right royal pain in the rear end, it will take longer to install due to the address being built and a complex site survey and it will not be done for the cost of a standard phone line install, depending on the location it may be done on a TRC basis.
