Windows server and its role management/installation is pretty helpful though you do need to know a little about stuff like DHCP and NAT.

Just got to get the reverse port forwarding to work now for Real VNC access to my computer from my iPad (racks brain)

I don't dare look at server 2012; it's too scary for me. 2008 R2 is going to be in support for a while yet, so I don't have to worry!

Hi guys,

I am currently looking for a good vpn provider. Did any of you hear of Hide my Ass or is currently using it? I am looking for a VPN provider which doesn`t save logfiles. I have no idea if this provider does that.

According to a speed test at this site it should be pretty fast. IPVanish and PureVPN seem also ok. Which one would you recommend?

Thanks in advance
Mark

Mark, did you read the prior posts in this thread first? Some useful suggestions to be found.

Hide My Ass does log, and gives away customer information if the us requests it. Mullvad is a good provider.

It depends on what you mean by "good" VPN provider. If, by that, you mean "one that has adequate bandwidth so that the loss of speed is negligible at all times" then I don't think that such a thing exists. There seems to be a big gap in the market for good quality VPN services. I couldn't find any.

Abandoned Astrill when it became so oversubscribed it basically stopped working. VPNUK is/was OK apart from on Friday and Saturday nights. Upstream is good, downstream is pants at times.

If anyone knows of a genuinely good VPN along the lines I set out, I'd love to hear about it.

IPVanish is good. Loads of servers around the world to choose from or automatic selection, UDP or TCP, Open VPN, optional periodic IP change. No logging, so they can't provide your activity to anyone. Decent performance.

If you subscribe to Eweka Usenet, you get IPVanish for free.

I would recommend PureVPN its really good and fast and their live chat available 24/7 so you can ask them about VPN.

thanks for the links, will look into them. tho its not tpb related but l do torrent anime.. just wanna start thinking about VPNs with all the recent news.

I have used several vpn services and now i am settled with IPVanish for last few months. It has all the important features and provide uninterrupted connectivity with good speed and most importantly it has servers in over 60 countries.

Sorry I know this is an old thread. But I use Astrill and I have done so for 5 years. it was the only VPN I had that could max out Virgin's 152 connection. There are hundreds of servers and you get some free extras. But I have always found them good either via the software or directly put into a router.

IPVanish is the only VPN Provider which have Tier 1 Network. This is the reason i suggest you to use a VPN.

There are a lot of VPN service providers out there, but Ivacy is the best among them. And I am claiming this only after when I was fully satisfied with the kind of service they offer. Really incredible experience so far, and looking forward for a longer relationship with Ivacy.

just thought ld update this thread to note that while its been quite a few years since l intended to contemplate a VPN l have now finally obtained one.. lm now with purevpn, so far they have been pretty good, $2 a month (paid a year up front, got one year free so l have a VPN for 2 years).

not to mention it works on android, ios, Linux and Windows without any tweaking, so far lm pretty chuffed with the service.

So now you can access all that Japanese Fetish porn without anyone knowing your true identity........ oops!

:laugh::laugh::laugh:

indeed LOL, at least l shouldnt have to worry as much about all those snoopers.

Well, I haven't heard anything *against* PureVPN, and looking at their support pages I see that they give proper info on setting things up manually on Linux, they don't just expect you to rely on importing some configuration into Network Manager, which my version doesn't like. At that price I think I'll add them as an extra back-up - converting from burger vouchers it's only about £1.40 a month, can't argue with that.
Thanks for bringing the offer to our attention, timeless.
:)

Generally I use NordVPN, albeit only when away from home and working out of a hotel or while on holiday. Mind you if the IPBill does get passed then I may be tempted to enable VPN for general work at home too because I don't trust the Government to keep such things secure, there have been too many major leaks of personal data.

indeed, thats one of the reasons lve finally found a service worth my time (turns out allot of my online friends use them)... that said l mostly use mine so far for everything expect basic browsing anything else currently runs through the VPN.
