Can you recommend an ISP?

Question: I game a lot and use skype for most of the day (VOIP), have msn running in the background. Do most downloads after 6pm.

The most i have ever used in 1 month in the past 2 years is 116gb and that was last month when i currupted my "d drive", although on average I use 60gb p/m.

Im unsure what games use so :(

So can anyone recommend an isp?

Well im happy! I have just been around the house and found a socket with a 3 way spliter that had a phone and the old 56k line to the old pc in it removed them and pinging servers is 10 times better pages load 10x faster too..

also the adsl goes from main -> 1 -> 2 -> 3 -> modem - gonna have to egt that sorted. Maybe thats why the line thingys are:

SNR Margin 18.2 & Line Attenuation 42.9 (2mb connection)

what do you all think? And any other recommendations on isps ;)

60 Per month is a lot, have to wonder what all thats for.

It also depends what type of downloads your using. For example, many throttle P2P traffic now.

I cant suggest any off the top of my head with that huge limit. As afr as I know, all the good unlimited ISP's are now limited (Zen, eclipse etc), either by a cap, or have a fair usage policy.

Beware any ISP that says 'unlimited' as they are often subject to a FUP. Find one that looks good, then ask about it from any current users.

I'm sure eclipse isnt actualy unlimited. Yes they have a unlimited service wih a fairuse policy but im sure the FUP caps you between 6pm-midnight depending on what package you pick. Thats my impression after speaking to them yesterday.

I use Plusnet, been with them nearly 3 years. Great Isp, never had any major problems at all, despite what some people might say.:smilet:

Yes it is and depending on what you pay theres a usage limit during peak times.

Well maybe i should have all my downloading at night ;) im not a big bittorrent user and dont use "hard based" p2p such as file sharing programs like lime wire etc.. (i know BT is p2p but not in the same way)

I may wait till we move end of the year to goto NTL cable, but would love the speed to try it now :)

EvolutionDSL - 8Mb unlimited - no FUP - £25 a month or £35 for an 8Mb office connection...

I migrated across to them about a month ago, been upgraded to Max this week. Happy so far - nice fast connection!

(I don't work for EvolutionDSL - just a happy customer) :)

Havn't had an outage with them yet, but like I said - only been with them for about a month.

They sent a newsletter around yesterday - announcing that telephone support is coming this month. (I was a bit wary about this when I first signed up, but they are quite quick in replying to e-mails).

Migrations are free, and you've only got a 1 month contract (on the home package), so nothing to lose if they don't live up to your expectations.

Do they allow free migration out though?

With all the fancy 'new' packages, they are capped. Before the new packages, they were truely unlimited, as a friend was downloading 24/7.

Guys,

Dont know if your interested, not intended to spam but I noticed that Evolutiondsl has only email support and being a customer as well.

I have setup a forum called evolutiondsl-forum.net and it there to help us evolutiondsl customers and potential customers.

It easier to find us all in one place and not spread all over the internet.

Hope to see you all there soon.

You could also look at - UK Free Software Network - not uncapped but with a pretty fair slice of the pie if you save your downloading to off peak....

eclipse evolution option 2 also gives 8mb with 30gb peak usage and unlimited off peak a large slice of the pie if u ask me for £18.99 per month 1 month free if migrating.
