canon pixma 4500

thinking about changing printer, at present use epson photo r300, 6 colour photo capable, cd / dvd printable, inbuilt memory card reader
cheap compatable inks readily available

but print heads clog easily which ends up wasting ink to rectify,

thinking about cannon pxima 4500 5 colour seperate ink tanks

had cannon i550 before epson quicker quieter and more reliable, which makes me want to back to canon however compatible inks areent as cheap as epsons they also dont have micro chip which means removing orignal chips and glueing them on, how long will this last before uhave to buy originals

any ideas canon or not canon

many thanks in anticipation

My dad has a Pixma 4000 which has lasted well and produces decent quality prints. Some of the inks don't produce good results but jet-tec in particular have been really good. My dad hasn't run on originals since he bought the thing.

Prints well on CD/DVD and good for photos. Make sure you have the decent paper though.

I like the canon inkjets in so far as that if I had to buy an inkjet I'd probs get a canon.

I just can't quite drag myself away from a laser. Now show me a colour laser that has direct disc printing for a decent price and I'm there.

hi entity have found over the years that jet tec pro jet and ink write are the best and most reliable compatibles

with you on laser printer and cd/dvd printing but think cost of laser printable disks may be a little high

thanks for good and fast responce

I have an older Canon printer with 5 separate ink tanks, in-laws have a more recent model, again with 5 separate ink tanks and on the basis that neither of these have given us anything other than good results and trouble-free performance they have just bought a 4500. I would expect it to be just as good as the older models.

I use original inks, they use compatibles. They haven't reported any problems but I am aware that my own folks, who have a mix of Canon and Epson, have suffered clogging with compatibles that were resolved by using originals.
