Does anyone else have this problem? At quiet times, I can get online no problem but at peak times (evenings 6 - 11 pm especially), it makes all the right noises but may take up to a dozen times or more to establish a connection (error messages 650 and 645 are common).
I have changed ISP (from Virgin PAYG to UK Online unmetered dial-up) and even bought a new modem (Zoom V90/92) but same problem persists.
I had no prblems until summer when a lightning strike burned out my modem. Ever since then, I have had a problem. UK Online have been very helpful but nothing they do or suggest (e.g. turning up gain on the line) seems to help
Anyone else had same problem? If so, what is the cause / solution? Is it something to do with the contention ratio?
