Cell Mapper - 5g mast not there?

Hi all,

I have recently moved house to a new city and am using a Three unlimited data sim.

I'm trying to work out what band to lock to and am using Cell Mapper to look at my local mast. I can't seem to find it on the cell mapper site at all? I know there is a 3 POW quite close to me but I just can't find it on the map. I'm probably doing something stupid. The POW is outside a pub called friendly forrester at this post code - YO16 6YS.

Any help would be appreciated.

Unfortunately it's not showing on Cellmapper peteb999, maybe it just hasn't been mapped yet. :(

None of the nearest Three masts seem to have very recent 'seen' dates, so that may be the reason. 🤷‍♂️

Just needs someone with the Cellmapper app to visit for 5 minutes to make it magically appear, unless of course it's not yet working.😊

I would willingly volunteer, but it's a little too far away for a day trip. 😁

Do you yourself have an Android phone perhaps?

The usual Three bands are 1, 3, 20, 28, 32 and n78 for 5G

Hi Wee Bear,

That makes sense as to why I couldn't find it.

I do have cell mapper on my phone so I could go tomorrow morning. Do you know what I need to do when I am there?

Hi peteb999, as long as you have a Cellmapper account, just visit the vicinity of the PoW and that's it, just make sure you upload your data if you have the live upload turned off.

It should appear in red in a few hours (sometimes the next day), then once you move it to the correct location it'll turn green, job done. 😊

You may have to visit it a few times to make all the bands appear, it won't show band 32 or n78 though. :)

Best of luck.(y)

Two questions though:

1. Do you need a account to upload the data?

2. If your SIM is using the EE network either directly or via a MNVO, would it pick up masts operated by other operators, shared masts between Three/EE or just EE masts?

Hi hle13,

It will still map but you won't get any personalised stats credited to your account username, and it will just map the network of the SIM or SIM'S you're using, nothing else. :)

I've registered and am going there in about an hour. I presume I just stand there for a few minutes and then click on upload?

Yes you can either turn on instant upload in settings or just wait till you get home and do it over WiFi if you don't wish to use any data, it doesn't use much data though peteb999. :)

Best of luck. :)

Thanks for that. I've got a Scancom 500GB SIM in the phone so I should be ok data wise, haha.

I moved into the new place on 18th Nov and am just using an unlimited scancom 3 SIM and I'm getting about 600Mbps which is great. It's just the same as having a normal FTTP connection at the moment.

The SIM has a fair usage of 1TB so hopefully I won't use that much.

Fantastic, yes I think you'll be fine datawise then. 😊

I just leave mine on instant upload when I'm out and about, no expense spared.🤷‍♂️😁

Anyway, I hope you get your 'invisible' PoW to appear soon.🤞

Also to move a mast to the exact location on Cellmapper, you need 50,000 points uploaded, you can either wait till you get that amount and proudly position it yourself, or just get another Cellmapper to move it for you. :)

I've been. It's is working as I got 1.1Gbps stood near it. I've uploaded it to Cell Mapper so hopefully it will appear in a couple of days.

Thanks for your help.
You're very welcome. :)

That was quick, yes it's pot luck when new masts appear peteb999, I've seen some appear within a few hours but some take days.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long.😊

Just had a wee lookie @peteb999, nothing showing yet, the worst for me was a week before anything appeared, but that was very unusual.

You might have to pay anther wee visit and give it a kick in anger. 😊

Take a wee note of the eNB number next time you visit, just to make sure you weren't connected to some other mast.:)

It wouldn't happen to be eNB 52124 / 0xCB9C, would it? It looks like the right mast but it had been placed in a location that didn't look right. I've moved it up to the location you mentioned and it seems to fit better.

I thought that too, but there is indeed a large mast where that eNB was originally placed frvic93. 🤷‍♂️

There is, but I'm not convinced it's 52124, or that Three has 4G there. The Three dots around the EE mast there are too dark, and the pattern almost but doesn't quite make sense. Also there's still 3G on in that location, which is interesting.

Edit: here's the kicker - check the pattern for cell 72 in the new location. Almost entirely consists of the bright green section in the pub car park, and peak RSRP of -69dBm.

Makes sense. (y) 😊

Yes, I think you've got the right one. It shows currently that I am connected to Cell 13351425 and that is Cell 1 on the one you've moved. Thanks for doing that - and thank you to Wee Bear for your help as well.

Is it worth me locking my modem onto a specific band?
