Changing ISP

Hi,

My ISP is so slow, i'm with TitanADSL, during the day i can hardly load pages, things like youtube in 240p just never buffers so i cant do anything. After around 6pm it speeds up but still using speedtest i get around 4mb down and 700kb up. Using youtube as an example again it allows me to watch in 480p smoothly, but no higher.

So i'm looking for a new ISP, i dont even know where to start. I'm in a rural location (RG7) so i wish i could get super fast broadband but i doubt that will happen. My main concern i high usage limits, i download a lot each month so probably 150gb+ I want to avoid the big companies such as BT or Sky because i know they limit, monitor and throttle a but too much.

I would really appreciate any help.

Thank you.

You may be suprised what is available to you, pm me your post code and I will have a check what I would recommend

I suggest checking through these articles as well:

One problem you may have is in finding a BT-based ISP that offers big or unlimited usage allowances without costing the earth. PlusNet might be a better fit if you can't get an LLU provider but still want something akin to unlimited as they're owned by BT but have a separate network and are broadly better rated.

Also Entanet, which supplies BT-based services to other ISPs, recently announced plans for an unlimited service. But so far we're still waiting to hear which vISP's will offer it.

Thanks for the replies.

I would ideally love truly unlimited usage but a reasonably high cap would be ok, i could save many of my larger file transfers too and from my server until off peak (which appears to be after 8pm)

What i really want is higher speed than my standard adsl which never runs faster than 5mb/s and the average download speed is around 200-600 during the times i mentioned in my first post.

I looked at plusnet and they have a fibre package which advertise speeds on my line estimated at 22mb/s. So am i likely to get anywhere near this?

When I went on to fibre i got a estimate of 34/6 but the line actually syncs at 68/20 but when I had a fault they tried to change the profile and I ended up at 120/50 but throttled to 38/8

Is there a tweak to the forum software that would allow a spam report to be sent to Admin AND posted in the thread at the same time??

BTW SPAM reported.

So i was looking into sky fibre. You need to also purchase sky line rental, does this mean i will no longer have to pay my bt line rental? I never actually use the landline only have it for broadband.

Yep thats right

indeed, and its slightly cheaper than BT unless you pay BT yearly in advance. however lm with Sky Fibre at the moment.. and lm pretty impressed at the moment.. had no real downtime just a very occasional 5min disconnect now and then but its never happened in humane times of the day lol (lm usually awake and online at nights).

and the speed has always been pretty rock solid l get a consistent 34meg down and 9meg up, and lm also a month ahead in bills, you see l pay manually despite a direct debit set up.. basically l credit the account with £10 a week and lm to the point where lm no a month ahead which suits me as l know l only have to pay a little a week rather than a lump sum at the end of the month (btw its £34 a month and thats rental and internet tho for a tenner more l could get 50meg down 20meg up).

Do a speed test and post it please timeless

usually its slightly faster, but still nothing to snarf at imho.
