clean instal of xp but...

Errr, well I dont think you can. It depends on the driver for actually seeing the drive, no amount of fiddling in the bios will change that.

In short, (and from what I know), if the driver you need isnt one included on the XP disk, your not going to be able to install onto the Sata disk.

Raid makes no difference, its a driver for the sata controller that you need for it to see the drive.

A workaround would be to use your normal ata drive for the system one, and get the drivers for the sata controller later.

Oh well, heres hoping the dell setup cd accounts for adding a sata drive...

from what i have found out, you shouldnt need any specific dsrivers unless you plan to run a RAID. if not you should be fine, just change the bios.

well as soon as ive back up, i will attempt it. If im not back online today you know the reason :D

That's what I thought, but I wasn't 100% sure! My installation was completely painless.

Where is this stuff you want to burn?

Im making an assumption here.

Are you using your old ata drive that was with your computer as a secondary drive, and your new sata drive as the system drive?

Presumably, your old drive is the one with the data you want to save.

When you install XP, leave it disconnected. Once you have installed XP and booted up, shut down and connect it up. You should be able to add it in disk management. You will be able to see all the stuff on there.

If you want it clean, simply copy the stuff you want to your sata drive, then format the ata disk, and stick the stuff back on it.
