Code Rush - The Beginnings of Netscape / Mozilla Documentary

May be interesting for people who remember the early browser battles -

Code Rush is a documentary following the lives of a group of Netscape engineers in Silicon Valley. It covers Netscape's last year as an independent company, from their announcement of the Mozilla open source project until their acquisition by AOL. It particularly focuses on the last minute rush to make the Mozilla source code ready for release by the deadline of March 31 1998, and the impact on the engineers' lives and families as they attempt to save the company from ruin.

Ooh - I remember having Netscape 4 on my old W98SE set-up.
It was a disaster!
It took forever and a day to load, a fair number of web pages wouldn't work with it, and it crashed with monotonous regularity - I gave up using it completely after a while.

Indeed - although in recent years Firefox has become a bit of a bloated beast with a style that (as presented) I don't like, and if it wasn't for all the useful add-ons, some of mine being aimed at keeping the old Firefox style - Classic Theme Restorer, Statusbar Clock, Tab Killer - I'd seriously consider ditching it and using Opera.
Mind you, having said that, I haven't actually looked at Opera for a good few years now - I expect that's just as bad nowadays!

I have to say that I've gone the other way and migrated more from using Chrome to Firefox. I got tired of Google removing features that were useful for backwards compatibility in Chrome and the start-up time for Chrome on my USB stick (I generally use "portable" versions when working away from home) is pretty dire. By comparison Firefox loads fast and seems to do a better job, I'd say if anything it's now less bloated and not more.

Every once in awhile I will go back and try Opera, but good god they keep making some of the same rendering mistakes as they did years ago. It's an odd world where I find catering for Opera's awkwardness to now be more problematic than tackling IE related issues. But Opera does seem to pack a lot more into their browser, although I never use all those extras.
