Community Fibre fibre overhead drop

Hi, I am trying to find out exactly what the Community Fibre overhead fibre drop looks like when the installation is from overhead telegraph pole. Do they fit a cover over the cable? Is there a box fitted externally? It seems to me that everything is fitted indoors but if anyone has this type of installation and can please post a picture that will be great. Thanks!

"We’ll drill a small hole (8-16mm) to attach an eyebolt to the wall, then clip the fibre cable down the wall to the entry point.
We’ll drill a small 6-8mm hole in your wall to bring the fibre optic cable into your home. It’s usually located close to the door, balcony or window.
We‘ll wall mount the fibre socket, the modem and the Mesh WiFi router.". They quote a 2 hour install.

Sounds like Hey! that they do not use an external box and in/out cable. They bring the drop through the wall into a small fibre connector box and then use an internal fibre patch to the ONT.

Kit may vary by location and availability.

They do allow third party routers but decline any support regarding such.

Their installation video at https://communityfibre.co.uk/installation-process-faqs gives a glimpse of the connector box and a wall mounted Velop.

I personally didn't like the suggestion of kit on the TV stand though nor that the bulky Velop should be mounted high on a wall. I am anti technology clutter in living spaces.

Thanks, have seen the video and the documentation but couldn't see anything on how they do the drop cable hence why I asked.

The issue is that this practice is the most common and if intending to get dual source in future both FTTP providers will probably use the same technique. At my daughters Hey! managed to create a clean whole through but a previous FTTC install by Openreach cracked a chunk out of the brick. In your case it could break the rendering. OR will probably cover any damage with an external CSP but Altnets using internal connectors just use a 3cm wall grommet.

Note all providers also highlight the possible need to drill a anchor point for the ladder (most installers will not bother but they could insist). Specific training is required for roof work and as you are aware the eye bolt will need to be in direct line of sight of the pole. Dual feed may require the eye bolt of each FTTP supplier to be apart to stop the drops chafing each other.

Reconsider using the loft?, (or a first floor space with external wall such as an airing cupboard), arranging power and installing a wall board for the kit. A suitable conduit poking out under soffit may be enough to encourage the installer to tack round to it under the soffit.

The providers standard practice though will be either an external CSP or internal fibre connection at ground level.

Community fibre customer here!

I’d upload pictures but the site’s size restrictions are bound to make it an impossibility…

Community fibre use a slim (~2.5mm) drop cable that is a single piece all the way to the termination plate, which is internally mounted. The plate has a pre-installed connector which is fusion spliced to the drop cable. This termination plate then connects to the ONT.

On the outside of the house, a small auto-tensioning fixture is mounted to the eyelet that is mounted to the soffit/wall. As you probably guessed, this maintains tension on the drop wire to the poll.

That’s about it. I had no problems asking the installer to take a preferred route and had them pull it through conduit, so the cable entered my under-stairs cupboard, where the ONT and pfSense router are located.
