Community Fibre with Google WiFi

Hi all,

I have moved to CommunityFibre and have a Google WiFi mesh setup. I have full speed upload (150mbps) but limited download (85 to 90 mbps).

I've spoken to Google and to CommunityFibre but only received very limited assistance that hasn't helped.

Can you help me resolve this? It's been this way for four months and I'm really hoping I can get the full speed soon.

Note: A wired connection to the CommunityFibre AdTran box is full speed, so there's something between the wifi and the AdTran boxes that isn't happy.

Additional info:
I've used this Google Wifi setup for years and never seen anything like this until I swapped to CF - at which point the speed was immediate and has been constant since. There's no abnormal fluctuation in the speeds (download or upload). I've also worked with Google support to identify anything from the Google side that could be affecting the issue.

If I plug an ethernet cable into my Google WiFi unit and speed test on my laptop, the speed results are exactly the same as they are on the WiFi.

Thanks!

Are there any other wifi routers enabled in your house? Have you gone through all the Google Support options? There are too many hits in Google if I search for "google wifi speed test slow" so you got some homework to do, but this one looks promising:

Othrerwise I would try on places where people with Google Wifi experience congregate. I doubt this is related to CF, seems more like a Google WifFi issue.

Long shot but can you try disabling IPv6 on your Google Wifi router? If the speeds are slow with a wired connection then it points to something else other than WiFi issues. CF does support IPv6 unlike some other ISPs and this can lead weird issues (despite what the IPv6 fanatics say).

Also try changing the cable you are using from the Adtran to the Google WiFi router. Are you able to see in the Google router at what speed each port is syncing? (ie 100mb, 1gb, etc). Another test can be to put a switch between the Google WiFi router and the wired machine you are using to test to rule out any weird incompatibility issues.

Hi, sorry for the delay here - having some trouble using iperf with my devices - compatibility issue.

I've disabled Universal Plug and Play, don't use IPv6, and have swapped multiple cables between Adtran and Google Wifi - no change.

Thanks so much for all your help here, I really appreciate it!

I honestly cannot figure out what the issue is but as the upload speed is 100% while the download is 60%, I'm convinced that the two can work together - otherwise wouldn't both speeds be an issue?

@bweveringham

I assume Community Fibre supplied something (probably Linksys) for you to use plugged into the AdTran ONT.

Does that achieve the same speed up and down?

I would then plug the Google WiFi into a LAN port on the Linksys (or whatever it is) and see what happens.

On the 150Mb/s service I see somewhere over 150Mb/s each way with the upload typically being a couple of Mb/s faster.

I assume that the Google Wifi has been faster than you now experience on a previous connection.

Also are there any "settings" or "rules" on the Google WiFi?

I assume you have tried a factory reset (if it is possible to save your config obviously do so).
