Community FTTP

Hi
Under the community voucher scheme, is there any obligation to use BT as the ISP after installation, if so for how long.

Is there any additional costs required by the consumer, ie connection or other fee, if so how much.

Thanks

AimDev

Hi
Under the community voucher scheme, ...
I'm not quite sure what you are referring to here.
Do you mean the Community Fibre Partnership scheme that is run by BT, or are you referring to one of the government's voucher schemes?
The CFP will cost you and others in your scheme money - and it can be thousands of pounds. You may be able to use government voucher for a part of that. You would be tied to BT for the initial period.
The government's Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme allows you (if eligible) to have a connection built by any company operating in your area, with the voucher value (£1500 per home) deducted from the cost. Again, you have to pay any cost over and above the voucher value.
Both may take 12-18 months (or longer) for you to be connected.

Thanks for your reply.
I have to admit I thought they were one and the same based of feedback from various parties. I think we may be able for the 1500 voucher, but in any case costing this out some of the potential subscribers have expressed concerns under any plan would they be tied in to an expensive ISP, and they have heard stories about large connection charges.
One of the subscribers contacted OR some time ago and vouchers were discussed, different for business, charities and private.
Hence the confusion.

That's not quite right. CFP is an Openreach offering and as such, you are free to go with any ISP. There is no commitment to BT for any length of time.

On installation, I'm sure OR must install within 12 months of contract if part payment is made via the Rural Gigabit Voucher Scheme (the Gigabit Voucher Scheme no longer exists).

I'm happy to be corrected. It is a few years since I tried a CFP - it didn't work as it was expensive and we couldn't get vouchers as the BDUK build was imminent. Unfortunately several years later we are still blocked from the voucher schemes as the BDUK build is still imminent (and I expect it would still be too expensive anyway).

We are currently carrying out a similar CFP using the RGVS in our village, though it terminates in existing form at the end of the month, with hopefully details of a new scheme due to be released within days.
We have had a formal quote from Openreach for £147K to install the FTTP system. Our understanding is that this quote needs to be matched by committing properties and SMEs in the village to join the voucher scheme and once the network is built, then the vouchers are claimed by the ISPs from DCMG to install the final links from CBTs into houses and businesses. The ISPs claim the value of the vouchers once the final link has been connected to the property owners satisfaction. Presumably Openreach get their return on investment from the ISPs paying for fibre network usage. Is this correct?
