Comparing shortlisted ISP's

I'm just getting my line connected and was looking for an ISP.

I have short-listed some with the help of reviews, features etc.

Fast.co.uk Broadband Max 20GB

ICUK Home Option 2

Idnet Home Max

Zen Active

I do some online gaming (World of Warcraft, Playstaion network) some of which uses p2p to talk to the server. So p2p throttling will be a hinderance unless anyone knows if there are different signals for this sort of traffic?

Do any of these use it? And if so, would it slow down my gaming?
Are there any similar/better offers about?
Are these ISP's any good in your opinion/ experience?

Also, are Plusnet worth considering as they offer a similar package? Or are they not worth it since being part of BT?

I'm not comfortable recommending PlusNet to gamers right now, at least not until they get the recent few months of capacity and performance problems truly resolved. I'm also fairly certain that neither of the two Zen and IDNet packages throttle P2P.

ICUK, I'm not sure about what they do with P2P, it seems to depend on the package but overall their reviews are good. Fast.co.uk do not throttle or restrict, that I am aware of. I think all are good options if you're looking for a quality service rather than a budget priced one.

Hi,

We dont have any traffic shaping in place and as far as I am aware theres no plans to introduce it either.

If you have any questions please ask away and I will answer them as best I can.

Just for your information. I had a reply back from ICUK (30 mins after sending email!) which says they use "level 7 deep packet inspection" which apparently should differentiate between types of p2p like a torrent and hopefully my gaming traffic.

I also found this out today as well, Titan (Vispa) and ICUK do this along with O-Bit ISP's.

My experience with Titan so far has been dismal at best.

60ms ping as well :/

Looks like IDNET/Fast/Zen are the only good guys left.
