Confusion on 5G Ultra

Hey,

Even since I upgraded to iOS 18, there is a standalone toggle, yet I am able to get any SA connections despite I live and work in central London, on Vodafone forum post it mentioned in my account there is mention of 5G Ultra being active, which I couldn’t find, is someone able to confirm such option/information exists on my account on Vodafone website? If so, how can I find it? Many thanks

If you log into MyVodafone and navigate to https://myaccount.vodafone.co.uk/plan/summary

Scroll down and under your extras you should see 5G Ultra, if it's not there then you cannot connect to it and will need to contact CS to get it enabled.

I had a similar thing, as @garetc mentioned above, I just got on a chat with Vodafone CS and they added it on for me. It worked immediately after that. Although, to be honest, there really isn't that much of a benefit to it just yet so this could be a blessing in disguise? lol

The only main benefit seems to be lower / more stable ping times as it stands so far.

At least from the times I've managed to get SA on O2 (near/max signal bars) both N28 and N78.

With Vodafone SA, I don't see the lowest pings but they're very consistent with less jitter. Also, in dense areas the connection is still rather usable which is handy (only if you've got SA coverage of course lol)

Same, I actually get better ping on NSA.

I'm a billion miles away from our O2 SA mast, but it's always there. :giggle:

I live in a location where the only network who tried to bring decent 5G was Three but the pitchforks from the local idiots saw them off sadly. O2 has fake 5G here (B20 with a little splash of B3), EE has recently upgraded a mast but no where close to my location in the town. Until O2/Voda upgrade the local mast at the station I won't be getting anything faster than around 30mbps or so.

What did you have to ask? As I talked to them they said it should just come with it and wouldn't do anything.

@maxsquared there are some prerequisites for them to enable 5G on your line (see below). I would suggest chatting to them via Social Media rather than on web chat if you meet them.

To get 5G Ultra, you'll need a 5G Ultra-enabled device, any Pay monthly plan bought from 24 February 2023 onwards, and to be in an area covered by our 5G Ultra network.

@maxsquared ^^ pretty much exactly this. I just asked them nicely as I'd upgraded to a new deal which did qualify for 5G Ultra access but wasn't showing on my account. They added it and it worked straight away.

Thanks massively. Ye, I took out my current contract Nov 2023. I argued with their chat agent yesterday and the person just wouldn't listen and saying that it's because I don't have it because mask near me is in maintenance and etc, I was literally ask how a mask can affect my account, they wouldn't put me through to anyone else, then I just closed my browser window.

Chatting with someone else rn if it's still the same, I will go the X route.

Got it enabled, thanks all.

Though, it feels like most of the time it will just jump into NSA when both SA+NSA available in the FTM dashboard. Not sure if this normal.

When on SA, FTM will report SA only not SA+NSA. Download nPerf, that will tell you if you are connected to SA or NSA. Use the 5G On instead of 5G Auto if you would like your iPhone to stay on SA even if NSA is performing better.

Wonderful tips cheers my friend.
