Connected through Sky @ 14052 kbps

dont have any extentions only box is bt masterbox

line enters house at rear upstairs junctionbox to convert from external to internal cable then a second junctionbox about 30 feet away from where pervious line entered house in bathroom but cable under tiles new external cable fitted 5 years ago due to storm damage, then old internal cable runs downstairs to bt master box at foot of stairs run router direct from this box using 2m router lead purchased from local computer independant retailer, this aalows me to position router on a telephone shelf to give better wireless signals for use upstairs,

intend to change bt mastersocket i have the old square style without the test socket, have bt engineer contact to provide new box then intend to change faceplate for an adsl splitter face plate, i could also disconnect ring wire nothing else i can do to improve noise levels

edit update just had a look in bt master box no ring line connected only wires connected to inputs 2 and 5 so cant do that then

UpStream Connection Speed 765 kbps

I aint going to complain to sky got what i'am paying for dont anticipate getting full 16mb speed or for that matter 14mb but it gives me a chance to improve things like some internal wiring thats about 20 years old have a bt engineer friend and get mastersocket changed and fit adsl splitter/filter face plate

just got back from my hols. attached the sky router. this is the 1st test.. and connection info..

so far im impressed over the 5 meg i was getting on BT . lets see how it settles apparently i should be getting 10-11 meg so i hope it goes up.

it looks like youve been put on 8mb connection the same as i was but to be honest when i was on that i got faster speeds, since getting put on 16mb downstrean i have been getting speedtest of around 2,5mb i notice your noise level is very low thats probably why they have restricted the speed, i intend to change some 20 year old wiring and get new master socket if this doesent improve noise ratios or speed then i will revert back to 8mb probably more stable

at the moment getting faster than previous isp at both 8mb or 16mb for £8 less

i have seen people on skyuser being put on 11mb

welcome to sky

spent the last hour on line with my m8 he keeps disconnecting me by playing with my profile at the exchange. he tried lowering my profile to adsl1 8 meg but my download speeds were capping at 650k per sec. so he bumped me up to the adsl2 profile 9 meg and im getting about 850k with no errors... i was set to 16 meg and getting 900k a sec but lots of download errors. he also played with my ping settings changed them from 32 to 8 and i did get a 15 ms ping decrease but i lost 200k a sec download speeds. so ill keep it at 32 and get the better speeds as my ping is only 50 and getting it to 35 is not a huge biggie:)

moved my mastersocket to dinning room tonight done away with over 40 meters of internal wires socket now 2 feet away from pc can connect router with lan cable instead of router 40 feet away and connecting with wireless and all i can say is WOW

results instantaneus over 14mb speedtest twice tonight

WOW WOW WOW

I have just joined sky from BULLDOG where i was getting a solid 15mb, had both my phone line and BB with them, I decided to leave as they were moving me over to Tiscali LLU and did not want to go there.

However since the move my connection aint as fast i thought it would be, I though with coming from a 16mb service I would get the same sort of speeds, yet for some reason sky are telling me that my line will only handle 10mb max.

here are my stats

10076 kbps 639 kbps
Line Attenuation 18.5 db 8.1 db
Noise Margin 6.7 db 20.5 db

when I was bulldog my line attenuation was 16 and SNR was 12.

Have you tried your old router and old filter to see if they perform better - there's a utility on the web somewhere to compute sky router passwords.

yes, I connected my old router and connected the old filters and no change, even pipex, ukonline adsl2+ checker is now telling me i can only get 8mb download, this is only since phone line went back to bt..
