copper vs fibre

I don't often use the full bandwidth of my 8 megabit connection (and I watch video, the odd P2P etc.), so I can't really see why I would need fibre. I'd rather see cheaper BT centrals ... :shrug:
 
tru but fibre is future proofing it allows for future capacity imho.

l agree there is that factor... but whats the point on spending out then a few more years later when things like IPTV take off thinking why the hell didnt we future proof 21CN with better technology kinda makes me think fibre is a viable idea

When theres lots of spare capacity service becomes cheaper. see http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6900697.stm for a recent report.

As for usage - just imagine high def 2 way streaming - full wav quality web chats - mp3 will be history too. Above all higher speed means less time wasted for stuff to come down the pipe.

In Japan its about 20 quid p/m for 100mbits down and UP :eek:.
