Crapping !

"do you expected to get your full 2Meg at all times?"

I think you miss the point. Of course there will be fluctuations in the speed. That's accepted. But that's not what's happening. What is happening is blatantly dishonest of Virginmedia. Let me explain: I signed up on the phone and I specifically asked them if there was a limit. I was told no. The service is unlimited. Then after a few days of being online, I discover the service is slow. So I investigate and discover that the speed is 50% less than I'm paying for (2mb). Further investigation proves that this is being caused by Virgin. They are restricting the service to 1mb after 5pm or thereabouts. This has nothing to do with the amount of traffic, this is Virgin flicking a switch. That's all. So I'm being defrauded. They're taking my money for 2mb and giving me 1mb half the time. That's short change. There is no other way of putting it: VIRGINMEDIA ARE FRAUDSTERS.

They have still not replied to my emails.

I will be cancelling before the 28 days is up, and complaining to OFCOM and any other body I can find who shows an interest in this sort of thing. I'm sickened that I'm not getting the service I'm paying for. What's wrong with everyone in this country that they're willing to sit back and take crap from companies? Well, I'm not taking it.

nope l think you miss the point... the times you specify are "peak" times when everyone jumps on, granted they are problems they lay with Virgin but my explanation works none the less, for an area with many cable connections speeds will slow down, why because many users are fighting for bandwidth and those nearer whatever is considered the exchange will have better bandwidth (ld assume)..

in short you are one of many who are fighting for bandwidth, and Virgin should be buying extra cupacity in order to prevent such slowdowns. however is common knowledge that ISPs try and wing it by chucking so many users on one pipe to save money while they pay their shareholders and not affording new cupacity, youll be hard pressed to find an ISP who doesnt.

I've heard that exchange argument before, and I always laugh in the face of it cynically because the exchange is on the corner of my street!

Look, it has nothing to do with traffic. Virgin media are operating a SCAM. This is what VIRGINMEDIA are doing to the cable.

It's like a broadband thumbscrew. They put the thumbscrew on at about 5pm and they tighten it bit by bit (you can check this by checking the broadband speed with a test each hour), so that the speed gradually drops by a set amount as they tighten the thumbscrew on you, until by about 1am, the thumbscrew is so tight you're screaming. By that stage you have about 20kbs upload speed and 300 download speed, as if your cable has leaked. It takes an hour to open some webpages and send your emails.

I have a tesco internet phone which I use to talk to my brother. Now I used this thing when I was with UKbroadband MYNOW and it never faltered. With Virgin, in the evening and late at night, the only time I can talk to him, the phone is useless because the upload speed is being strangled by Virgin. WHAT THE HECK AM I PAYING FOR?

This is no kind of service at all. I'm demanding a full refund on Monday, before the 28 days is up, and they're going to get hell from me. I'll switch to Vodafone.

well good luck altho l think youll be hard pushed to find a service that wont do exactly the same to you as what you have just experienced unless you head over to Zen however then youll be paying through the nose but in retrospect to that you will get unlimited (depending on the package) and no slowdown at peak times depending on how they work their network.

I used to have the perfect ISP, pre ADSL though, Cloud9; excellent service 100% reliable and totally unlimited, I could stay on-line all day everyday, of course no one could call me.

I don't know if anyone remembers them, the first ISP to be put out of business by DDOS attacks.

So you like being short changed then? Well that's your problem if you're so weak that you let companies steal from you. You're saying you pay for 20mb and you only get 2mb. Wow, what a great deal. Remind me to sell you some AIR; I've got a great deal for you, you'll just lap it up.

But you talk about capping. I stressed I'm a new customer, and there is no way I could have gone over their limit ... furthermore, they claim they're UNLIMITED. So add false advertising to fraud and you've got a really worthy company.

I'll tell you something, yesterday my old ISP MYNOW UK broadband put fifty quid in my account as a goodwill payment, and not only that, but they've kept my email accounts open for me, and all because they had to reduce coverage and I lost my account with them through no fault of my own. I am flabbergasted at the integrity of MYNOW. They are the benchmark for all ISPs, but sadly this kind of generosity and customer service is too rare.

It is definitely lacking in Virginmedia's case.

Oh, and I don't believe that you got a reply from your email to Virgin. Not in a million years.

And according to your profile, you're not with Virgin, you're with FAST4...

LOL u need some maths lesson!! i sed i pay for 20mb connection speed, and i get around 2.0 - 2.3mb download speed (megabyte)!!

You mean you get 2.0 - 2.3MB/s = megabytes per second, a lowecase 'b' means bits. 2.3mb means 2.3 megabits =0.29 megabytes)

I remember the CEO Emeric Mitzsari (ok I can't remember his exact surname, my memory is not what it was :o) used to post on here. As I recall there were plans to sell the customers on to V21 but that went down the pan. I also seem to recall someone from V21 (maybe Steve ?) criticising their security, which was a bit rich considering the state of V21's site.

We were sold on, but not to V21, the name eludes me though. At the time I was looking to get ADSL and this other isp didn't do it which was a pity because their service was very good, so I switched to Pipex and had many good years but crap customer support, they still owe me a Spa Day voucher, bought and paid for and spent a year chasing them for it before I left.
