Crazy low Three 5G Hub upload (8.8kbps) but only on SOME devices...

View attachment 2109
Hi Tigerfan, here's a screenshot of my APN section (Network Settings) if it helps you any. (192.168.8.1) in your browser.

Hopefully three haven't hidden this setting.

Just add a profile for the APN you don't have, then you can swap between them.

No usernames or passwords are required. :)
This really helped me thanks, I bought a Huawei CPE 2 pro second hand which was locked to three and tried to get it unlocked with no success so relented and put a three sim into it, I'm not technically in a 5G area but do border one so gave it a try anyway, I can get 400-500mb down which is way faster than my BT Broadband which only hits 40mb however the upload rarely got over 1mb since trying the other APN I now get 3-4mb upstream which is an improvement and have hit as high as 650mb down

Glad it helped Andylangers, great speeds you have there for sure. (y)

The 2 three APN's are ....

three.co.uk
3internet

Just in case anyone doesn't know what they are. 😊
Thank you for posting this.

I've had an unlocked CPE pro 2 router for a while and was using Vodafone for 5G. Even though I'm not technically in their 5G area I was still getting signal. Switched over to three, because I'm in their 5G area and was getting 650+ download speeds but zero upload. Was about to cancel and go back to my steady 150/40 with voda but changing the APN worked great. Now getting 650/75ish with three.

Great news ChristopherJZ, happy days. (y)😊

Newbie here who comes in peace ! Just had my three MC801A delivered this morning. I live 50 metres from a 3 pole of wonder !! Plugged the device in this morning and got around 950 mbs download but 0.00 upload on Wi-Fi using three separate Samsung mobile phones. Now here’s the interesting part. On my IPad I was getting 100 mps upload when it was tested in the same location. I’ve hard wired the hub to my PS5 and get 850 mps download but again no upload. Same figures with Amazon Fire Cube box. Very frustrating.

in addition I’ve just tested my lads iPhone 600 download and 80 upload.

Three technical support are next to useless and couldn’t help me out.
I don’t want to send the hub back as it clearly works on some devices but not others.
Any ideas on a fix would be gratefully received.

***** SORTED NOW BY CHANGING APN TO THREE.CO.UK *****************

thanks for the info about adding the APN , I have had the H122-373 5g hub from three for about 10 days, I get 5 bars signal reported on the home page. yet when 5g light is green the upload speedtest was about 1mbps using google speedtest on a Macbook M1 , download was quicker than my talktalk fast fibre 80mbs wired connection.

adding the three.co.uk APN seems to have changed the traffic shaping that was going on and I was considering taking it back in the 14days contract cooling off period due to the upload being unfit for purpose.

Just wanted to post as I found a solution by using the threads above and some info from another site. I have a new Three 5G ZTE Hub in good range of the tower.

I had a PS5, and Samsung mobile not getting good upload speeds (downloads fine). PS5 was 8.8kbps (yes kbps not mbps), and the Samsung phone zero. Also an iPad and iPhone getting great downloads and uploads. Called Three support who were useless, cut me off once, passed me from broadband to mobile and back to broadband, insisting their network was fine as the iPad and iPhone worked fine and therefore to call Samsung. Lo and behold they were wrong, reading from a script and desperate to get me off the line!

Decided to try and puzzle it out and resolved it by changing the APN settings in the router (type into browser: http://192.168.0.1/index.html#login). I needed to change the APN from 3internet to three.co.uk

Turn off the switch below, then click Settings underneath:

Then select APN settings in the next screen (no image supplied of this), then you’ll see the screen below, change the mode to Manual, Add New, then use the values below. Once done go back to start page, switch the 5G toggle back on and then do a speed test to check its fixed.

Oh must be hidden with your firmware version Tigerfan, you'd maybe need to try out the source code routine to unhide it, not sure.

Thank WeeBear, can you point me in the direction of where those instructions are please? I'll give it a go..
I can't seem to find it unfortunately Tigerfan but I believe it was using the Firefox browser on a PC you could bring up hidden menu items.

There's a little mentioned at the end of this thread using a B535 router.

B535 Problems

Sorry I'm not familiar with this myself Tigerfan, so not able to help much.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge on the hidden menus will be able to help you out.

After complaining to the management of Three directly they have been pretty good about this and given me some £’s off for the inconvenience. Interestingly having thought it was done I’ve just had an email from them to say they’ve fixed the issue and I can move back to 3internet this weekend.

It’ll come back, it always does.

I’ve got my mum‘s internet running on 5G, only one bar, but they get a fairly stable 50-100mbps which is good for them. 4G network is very much over-utilised in the area though and the upload speeds is 1mbps only at good times. 4G downloads were fairly abysmal also, but the signal itself on 4G was always very good. Hopefully when 5G standalone comes it’ll massively improve that.

The 5G seems to show that Three’s actual backbone capacity is very good, but their spectrum utilisation is too high (cheap prices, lots of customers using large amounts of data etc).
