just wondering if anyone knew what the damage temp of a Intel Core i5 4440 was l cant seem to find it within the stuff l have.. lve seen random peeps saying its safe to go up to 70c but ld like to know just for curiosity sake.

Intel says max of 64C for Tcase for my 3770k, but it's spent a lot of its life at around 90C, with peaks around 100C. For first gen core i processors, the max was 105C and I don't think that would change.

lve been looking around, for manuals or info directly from intel but with little luck so far :/

Part of the problem is that the temp sensors built in to the chip and the temp sensors built into the mobo UNDER the chip never agree.

I recently swapped out a cpu/fan combo into my 2nd PC during an upgrade; despite the fact I took the combo out in one piece, so the heatsink compound wasnt affected, the old mobo claims the cpu is running 10C hotter than it did in the orignial mobo

to be honest that doesnt surprise me so much, even if you managed to move it without the compound affected it would have been, you likely already know this (but it could be useful info for other peeps) but the compound isnt so much lubrication for the CPU but a way to account for the imperfections of the heatsink for best possible contact and heat which allows for better dissipation. after all our eyes arent good enough to see some imperfections on the bottom of the heatsink and thats what the compound comes in.

those temps do seem to be the consensus... my mate on facebook (used to run a PC shop - was an amazing tech considering what most local shops lve known are like) agreed that was about the temp, tho lm still waiting for info from intel (l emailed). hopefully l can get a consensus then set my bios values accordingly..

definitely weird tho using a UEFI based bios, so used to the older versions.

I used a metal compound (I forget the name), it arrives as a thin sheet, that you melt between the cpu and heat sink at a high cpu temperature, then start the fan back up to cool it enough to set again.

sounds strange.. tho l thought you were originally on about arctic silver. happen to have a tube of that myself. tho l have some other stuff but l forget its name.. my friend gave it to me and said it was the best stuff ever tho annoying to use.. (if can find it ld have looked up the name).

I still have one sheet left - it is in a "safe place", ie I cant find it!!!

If I do stumble upon it, I will post the name. It works very well, but you need to have a bit of technical knowledge (and nerve) to use it).

finally remembered the name of the compound, its called Shin Etsu, supposed to be amazing, got a tube of it somewhere.
