DAB - Station closure - Capital LIFE

I cant understand why they have closed down Capital Life today. It was the only reason i had a DAB radio. Anyway i and it seems many others are not happy and i will be signing the petition when its online.. please support it as we are loosing stations at an alarming rate..even worse the best ones.

I never bought into DAB, and if I'm honest I doubt it will be around much longer.

The last figure I saw (which were a while ago) suggested there simply weren't enough sets being sold to be able to support commercial radio.

I think the only reason its still going now is the BBC's support for it....

Indeed, another one of DAB's problems is that it's quite expensive to deliver when almost everybody still uses the old style analogue radios. Meanwhile, unlike TV's, you can't just do a digital switch-over because analogue radios are quite literally everywhere and not just in the living room.

So you have an expensive technology with low usage and almost no real positive selling points. That kind of system can not survive.

If you own a newer Ford car and like to listen to Radio 5 then DAB is essential. AM reception is appaling. Nothing to do with the transmitter (Redruth in my case). Ford have admitted that all newer Fords suffer the same problem of poor AM reception. They say there is nothing that can be done apart from getting a DAB radio. How they can design something so bad is beyond me.
As for stations closing down it's of course all to do with is money. They are all too big and need to generate vasts sums of money to pay all their staff. I listen to KCSM in San Francisco, a 24 hour Jazz station, via Internet. On some days they only have 2 staff on, 1 presenter and 1 engineer. That's the way to run a station. Perhaps the next step will be Internet radio in the car!

I have a 18-month old Mondeo, and have no problem with AM. I have listened to a few footy matches on R5 Live without any issues (apart from the scores, sometimes).

Why design in flaws intentionally, or change something that works?

DAB Scmab. Load of rubbish.

DAB is a waste of time. I tend to buy most new technology things, and the 2 items I don't have....

DAB
Bluray.

Neither of which I have any intention of buying into.

I purchased a DAB radio about one month ago and what a waste of money.
In Suffolk there is not one single local radio station transmitting from the counties masts.
Even BBC Suffolk is missing.
I can get more stations on Freeview than the DAB radio.

I'm probably have Blu Ray if I had a HD tv, and DAB is of no interest to me.

I have a DAB radio in my living room, and another in my bedroom. I am delighted with them. My FM signal used to wander in and out. DAB doesn't.

and ld have bluray when it came commercially possible to sell disks at a reasonable price.. ld rather burn 30gig to a disk at a time than 8gig plus my need for storage space would decrease...
