Dell grafix?

Hello folks,

On behalf of a mate...

He owns a Dell Dimension Dim2350 Intel [r] (at least thats what it says on my text message!).

Being Dell it has built in grafix -64mb i think-...he's wondering can he buy a pci grafix card -128/256- and plug in? Would that work?

If yes..Would he need to disable the onboard grafix, if so..how?

:)

TBH I think the biggest problem here is going to be finding a decent pci graphics card. Haven't they stopped making them?

If you PM entityonline im sure he will know, he's the best person I know on hardware.

If he has a spare pci slot then yes, make sure he dosent mean pci express cos thats a no. Once in he would have to get into the bios and switch off the old one. There in lyes the problem as i dont think ya can get into dells as they block it off.

LeeH..PM has been sent..thanks!!

Yes, he does have a couple of spare slots..though i have no idea about whether you can buy pci cards ( if anyone can link any..that'd be super..he's after 128minimum). Yeah, we was just chattin about it today..i'm guessin he knows there's a difference between pci and 'express'. Just seems a shame, his pc is more than capable..but he's realised the grafix are oldin him back. Unfortunatley..he only realised the drawbacks of Dell after he bought the system..some 3 years ago. From what you are sayin, without investigating..the BIOS could be the kingpin to downfall!!

Thanks for your speedy replies so far. :)

Cheers Bob...now I've seen one..they are all over the place, plenty to choose from!!

I guess now it's just the BIOS issue :hrmph:

Just an update for any concerned.

Speaking to my bud today..he said he knows he can bet into the BIOS to turn off the on board grafix, as he'd been there before when lookin around.

So thanks for your help..he just needs to decide on which Pci card now!

:)

If I had to pick for myself I would go for either... £34
