Demon charging newer customers less than existing ones

Been with Demon for about a year, paying £19.99 a month for the service, and have recently discovered that they are advertising the same service (on their webisite) to all new customers for just £17.99.

I've made numerous calls to their customer services, and have been fobbed with "we're currently sending out batches of letters to change the payment details to all our customers, you should receive one within the next few days". Of course no letter has arrived to either myself or any of the other Demon subscribers I know.

I know it's only £2 a month, but I think a company like Demon should reward their existing loyal customers with a discount before anyone else, and to be given fabricated stories about "batches of letters" is totally unacceptable.

They could of done what AOL do and not bother even sending out letters to give people the option to move to the reduced rate.

I have already got the letter, received it about a week or more ago.

Just for the hell of it I went to the upgrade URL they mentioned in the letter just now and it said Unfortunately, we are currently unable to offer an upgrade for your current DSL product WTF.

Not that I am bothered about 2 quid anyway and it also means me signing up for another 12 month contract.

I had the same problem with Vispa 3 times over the years I was with them. At first they refused to give me the decrease but after a barrage of other people following me they relented. Trouble is it happened 3 times and each time I had to go through the same thing. They hope that most people don't read their main page or forums and thus will never know that the price has gone down. Keep the pressure on.

Unless the cost of breaking the contract is very cheap and you are 100% satisfied with the service, then I don't think a potental £24 saving over course of a year is worth a 12 month contract. What if you have to move or if their service goes down the pan.

I'd be looking for suitable alternatives, and maybe asking for a MAC.

It seems a very strange way of doing business, and why are they sending "batches" of letters. They should send letters/emails to ALL there customers to let them know of the discount.

just for an example they have 30k users on the packages that have a reduced rate now, they have 30 staff going through the requests, every member of staff takes 10 mins to to sort out the reduction in packages do the calculations.
