DHCP Server

I recently signed up to a forum, however had a falling out with the admin who decided it would be clever to post my IP address on the main notification page. Since then I have had a high number of port scannings / attempted accessing of my system showing up on my firewall.

I asked NTL if they could change my IP which they replied "NO as the DHCP server assigns them automatically."

If I release my IP though, wont they be able to give the server a command to assign me a new IP?

My renewal date is coming up soon, so maybe if I mention that they may change their minds.

I really wish to have my IP changed, so if they wont I suppose I will have to change cabel provider.

SO yes answers to my question greatly appreciated ASAP.

Might take more than a day depends how many people join after you switch the cable modem off. Are you planning a holiday soon if so switch it off alll the time you are away. NTLs policy is its illegal to port scan so they should have done something what I can suggest is to report the IP numbers to the ISPs for abuse and see if that stops it,

I also have one friend who tends to go for vengence and repeatedly pings them not sure if its legal but it makes him feel better.

Hope you get something sorted soon.

See if you can find out which company provides the web space for the forum, then make a formal complaint to them.
