Why no messages on this forum since the avc service started in january 2004 i wonder.
I have been a subscriber to AVC for two months. I did not use their set up service ( which includes a hauppauge usb box) , but installed my own satellite link and use a SKYSTAR 2 PCI card.
support from avc has been quite good - generally timely responses, and a lot of phone time at the beginning.
I have had 3 sets of problems - 2 sorted, and 1 not.
Firstly
I had a number of initial teething problems which were due to the not very friendly astra proxy software set up, and the lack of specific instructions for the non standard (for AVC) skystar card. The final (obvious in retrospect) problem was that i had set up the PID 1700 and 1702 parameters as hex in the setup4pc data services settings rather than decimal.
Secondly
I had a continual problem of the astranet proxy software trying to log me in when i was already logged in. This caused the AVC server to log me off, and also often to disconnect my dial up link. This was eventually solved by amending the initial timeout parameter in recv.ini from 20000 to 40000
Thirdly
My Freeserve Anytime dial up link randomly and often disconnects whilst i am using the AVC broadband satellite service. This problem was masked by the second problem listed above, but now happens so much as to make the satellite service effectively not usable. AVC have been unable to find a reason for this. ( Large downloads seem OK, it is generally when I have multiple instances of explorer open)
My dial up link is of good quality, and when I use Freeseve Anytime without the AVC service there are no problems, so i believe the problem is due to the way that the astra net proxy software links through the freeserve servers.
so three questions.
1) is there anybody out there using Freeserve Anytime with AVC and NOT having any problems ? - AVC tell me I am unique.
2)is there anybody out there using other dial up ISP's with or without problems ?
3) all you new subscibers being transferred from Central Point ( presumably using skystar cards ) - are you having problems ? if not then what dial up isp are you using ?
thanks
