Digging up my road for 3rd time and not told!

I am more than unhappy that my road is being dug up for the 3rd time in as many months for so-called faster broadband. I had to move my car to get out this morning before the workmen arrived. Then when I came home the whole road was blocked off so a digger, a dumper truck and several barriers had to be moved. Including ones in front of my own driveway and a bridge made to drive over a trench. I DO NOT WANT FASTER BROADBAND! I DID'NT ASK FOR IT AND CERTAINLY DON'T WANT THIS DISRUPTION. I was'nt even told about it ? Except for a workman knocking on my door late yesterday afternoon saying they would be blocking the road. What happens if an ambulance or fire engine needs to get in. Let alone visitors or wedding/funeral cortege?.Its just a small cul-de-sac! I even could'nt walk out the cul-de-sac this morning to go to where I had moved my car to. They had to move barriers! Who is in charge because I would like to speak to them? And now have tried to attach 4 photos of this mess and apparently they are all too large to upload! Thats convenient!!!!

Whilst this is a mess, its only a inconvenience for a day or two..

Just because you don't others most probably do.

thats enough notice..... or do you need 7 days or a month or whole year?

I'm sure they would have coped fine, and the workmen would have helped were need be

You could have spoken to the foremen, they would have told you, who to complain, except you wanted to come on here to moan.

regarding images, as other have said, all servers that allow uploads have a limit set - you can also use 3rd party image hosting.

I understand your frustration because it is a mess and poor planning but...... and a big but, its two days in your life.

What a selfish moronic attitude.

There are a few sites that you could have easily checked, or even setup an automatic alert to notify you of any works on your street :

It's your road? How come they've dug it up without seeking your permission?

Or is it in fact the public highway and you have no special claims over it just because you live close by.

The work would have been permitted and published wherever your local authority usually publish that sort of information, they don't need to send you letters in advance though sometimes this happens as a courtesy.

Next time make sure you choose to live in a property that is well off the public highway because you obviously have an aversion to anyone with the relevant permits from your local highway authority performing works outside your door.

Infrastructure upgrades are needed, but I think your issues with lack of notice is very valid, it seems to be a crapshoot.

Some works done last year for instance I had no notification at all from the council, they had shut of my entire part of street, and even emergency services werent notified which led to the police to come and verify the situation.

My council also routinely does not put works up on the roadworks website. They have also have no noise hour restrictions either. Came very close to doing those works last year overnight but both the contractor and residents heavily protested it to get them to change minds.

I’m so glad none of my neighbors have this attitude.

I don't get the whole "poles" fuss, either. Perhaps it's because, as far as I can remember, every house I've lived in for my whole life has had telegraph poles on the road outside (which, as others have reminded, we don't own). I don't even notice the things.

They dug up my street for fibre, and it was mildly annoying, it was noisy and it was right at the start of lockdown so I was at home all day, but in the end we've got fibre, and the internet is much better, and the work lasted all of four days, who cares?

I wonder how Nightmare gets access to the internet surely other people will have been inconvenienced, in the past, so he could have the internet now.
