I'm in West Wales UK. 4gG only here. no landline. I'm on three using huawei 535 232, really poor signal, mast is about 14 miles away, external antenna is square directional from 3gwifi on ebay on a 3m mast. . I can't upload a picture of it. Can anyone reccomend a good directional antenna.?

Yep Iskra antennas are fantastic and high gain. Only tested the P-62 (5G and 4G capable) 1400MHz- 3800MHz, but there's also the P-60 too which has higher gain in the lower bands 700MHz to 3800MHz.

How long cable btw? Which operator?

Cables are 3m, router is in a waterproof box below the mast. Cat 6 cable to the shed. operator is Three. Is there a signal strength ap or program which works in windows so I can plug the laptop in at the router to adjust the antenna direction? everything seems to be android...

@Lucian is LTE H monitor for windows still going?

I haven't heard anything of it for a while but it may still exist.

No need for apps. Just open the router user interface and look for the rsrp and sinr values, move and compare.

Worth knowing that these values don't necessarily translate into better speeds!
They usually do, but not always..
So move antenna, check signal values, do a speed test.

That's very good actually!
Rsrp and rsrq are negative numbers, yeah?

Anyway, twist it around and see what you get as per my previous post.

Thanks, yes those are neg numbers, I've tried the aerial in all directions with a laptop wired direct to the router, I was getting speeds of about half a meg at best. I put the tube aerial back on and get around 1.5 meg. So signal is good but speed not, I just need about 10 meg. This may not be a very good aerial. I've heard of signal boosters but don't know what they are, I just see wifi boosters, I'm not bothered about wifi as I just use hard wired. Does a booster go between the antenna and router or in the cable out of the router. As you can tell, I'm an old novice at this game..

If your signal is good, but your speeds still slow then it's probably a backhaul problem, in other words the mast's uplink is saturared and there isn't much you can do.. maybe target another mast.

Right, I've ordered a sim from EE , and if I can wake up around 4am I'll go down there and check the speed. cheers
