Disconnected line still flagged?

The story so far...

I'm with V21/Biscit, about 2 weeks ago BT disconnected me, voice and ADSL, over billing mix up (their fault). I resolved the issue with BT but now it seems my ADSL needs to be reactivated by V21. After emailing, calling, ticketing and faxing for a week, i get NO response from V21/Biscit. My chances of getting a MAC this century are slim at best, so I was thinking, if BT disabled my ADSL, will it still be flagged by V21? Is there any way of finding out?

It used to be the case that just changing the account name with BT would clear the falg, therefore a cock-up like the one you describe would (I expect) clear the flag.

I can't be certain though

What does this checker tell you http://www.prodigynet.co.uk/menu.php?page=support/adsllinecheck

I would expect that your adsl has been ceased. If it was BT's fault your ISP should be able to make BT pay to reconnect you. If you are out of the minimum contract period with your current ISP maybe you should consider a different ISP although you would have to pay for activation or go for one with 'free' activation.

Called BT Wholesale and found out the line was no longer tagged, and no work orders were pending on the line (thanks for nothing V21). Obviously I quickly went elsewhere. I like AOL's free wireless routher offer so I just signed up there.

So to get your line untagged you simply get your line disconnected (don't pay your bill) and pay later to get it re-activated, minus the tag. Only downside is that I'm told BT sometimes charge £50 to reconnect after a non-payment disconnection, though this isn't much more than some ISPs charge for a MAC.

*Update*

Just signed up with AOL and there's already a work order ((ADSL) BT IPSTREAM) on my line for 8th NOV, thats how you run an ISP V21!!

With any luck your line will be activated MUCH quicker than that. A lot of Ex-E7 customers were back on line under a day after their cease.

Did you sign up to AOL via phone and get a discount? It was possible to get £25 (each) for refer a friend (even though the offer has run out) and apparently if you ring a few times also a £5 per month discount on your chosen package (although you had to pay £25 to get the router on that deal). I went for the quidco cashback myself .

So these BT work order dates are not "written in stone"? Would I be able to use my old ADSL modem if my equipment doesn't arrive before I am connected? (I'm assuming the username and password you select when ordering will be the ones you use to connect)

Pleased it worked out well for you in the end Agraj and seeing it was not your fault but the fault of BT that your line was disconnected then everything is fine. Except for the same or very similar issue as yours I would not recommend anyone to not pay their bill. If one takes this route then it may just happen your reported to the 3 main credit reference agency's in the UK and while there is no such thing as a 'Black-list' you could find it very difficult to obtain credit anywhere let alone another voice or broadband supply.
BT certainly credit rate their potential customers these days and many ISP's [NTL/Telewest started a couple of months back] are doing a credit check/rating before accepting your custom.....

Well I was up and running using my AOL connection 4 days before the scheduled completion date. However a BT engineer was testing my line from the junction box on my outside wall on the day the activation was officially completed so I guess BT's date was accurate.

I believe all the people who were connected in under a day had BT based (Ipstream) connections before they were ceased and were also put on BT IPStream by AOL rather than LLU.

(I'm assuming the username and password you select when ordering will be the ones you use to connect)

It is, use all lower case no spaces. If you prefer can set up a screenname to just use with your modem/router here:- https://names.aol.co.uk/names.adp has to be 18 rated and password must be 8 characters or less.

If you use their horrible software just use enter you username (aka screenname) and you password in their dialer.

Otherwise as you'd expect use your username@aol.com . I would suggest configuring your modem to use PPPoE LLC just in case you are on an AOL unbundled exchange as I understand PPPoA won't work on unbundled AOL connections and the MTU should be 1450 or less.

Of course I wouldn't want anyone not to pay their phone bill and get credit blacklisted, but its a bad state of affairs when thats the only way you can ditch a bad ISP and switch to someone else...

Thanks Mel btw.

Well i'll be damned, my modem just connected! 4 days early :D

I tried the instructions I found to test your ADSL connection.

BT test domain.

User: bt_test@startup_domain / No password

This worked fine...

User: bt_test_user@your_connnection_pipe where your_connection_pipe is the bit after the @ symbol in your ADSL login.

I tried bt_test_user@aol.com / No password and this worked also.

My username and password dont work yet, but i guess i'll have to wait for AOL to sort that out...

Did you check your aol username and password is accepted here:- https://names.aol.co.uk/names.adp

Actually, I'm not sure if that will work from a non-aol connection, but I think webmail would http://info.aol.co.uk/email/index.adp

If you signed up by phone they may have got the spelling wrong.
(if you need to ring *support* use either 01179191100 or try the old 0800 number I think it might be 08002796771 its mentioned in a post on this forum somewhere)

Yep, no problem signing in there. I'm trying to use myusername@aol.com and my AOL password in the modem settings, I assume this is correct... If I phone them and explain that I have the necessary hardware connected and ready to go, do you think they could fast-track my account activation? or will they get all huffy because im not using their software?

Never mind, I phoned AOL and explained the situation, they had to give me a new password, but I am now online :D
