Disconnects and reconnects

Hi, i am currently with ADSL24 on a home 30 plan, everything has been fine for the past six months but recently in the past week, i have been getting disconnected every fifty minutes roughly (especially when on my xbox 360), and then reconnected about 60 seconds later, which becomes very annoying because i am completly removed from my games.

My router is a Dlink 2740b

Here is some other info which i think will be useful:

The speed is fine, getting around 600kb down and around 300kb up.

Thanks, and i hope you can help me find the problem and a solution.

Have you tried a different router at all mate just to eliminate the possibility thats it faulty?

You are getting 600kb (I assume that’s Kilobits) down and 300kb up? But your router stats suggest you should be capable of significantly more. The line is syncing at 7968Kbps and your downstream attenuation is just 13dB, which is roughly correct for the line sync. So in other words your real-world speed should be more like 6.5 to 7Mbps+ (NOTE: On an ADSL2+ service a line like this should hit 20Mbps with a good ISP).

Likewise 300Kb for upload seems very slow, uploads are usually pretty solid even on poor lines and you should really be getting around 400Kb. Next, the downstream SNR Margin is lower than I would expect for such a line at 8.9dB but that is not terrible. Overall your line stats seem pretty impressive but I would like you to run our Speedtest once and paste the results:

http://www.ispreview.co.uk/speed/

Could you also put just your telephone number in here and tell us what the ADSL MAX Estimated Speed result displays as - near the top:

http://www.ispreview.co.uk/checker/

Drops in connection like the one you describe are usually caused by sudden dips in the SNR Margin or some sort of problem with the router itself (e.g. cheap routers can be prone to disconnection during storms), which doesn't like going below around 6 or 7dB and if it dips by a variance of around 2dB+ then the line can cut out. However on the surface your stats look good.

It might be worth you downloading Routerstats and setting it to monitor your SNR for an hour to see if there are any obvious dips that fall significantly below the trend.

Also you should make sure that the basics are covered and that you have a microfilter (splitter) installed on EVERY phone line extension in your home. Find some more tips here:

Ok, thx for the replies. I have just completed the Routerstats test aswell as the others here is the info. Did all these tests in the evening.
