Do Symantec make Antivirus or VIRUS software?

ZoneAlarm is so easy to use even my sister can manage; and my sister is the girl who famously once phoned me to say she couldnt get our mothers PC to switch on after spending 4 hours waggleing the mouse. (no joke).
There used to be a guy where I work who, immediately after switching on his PC, wiggled the mouse so the screen would come on quicker!

He was also know for saying quite a few dumb things (possibly even giving George Bush a run for his money):

"So you could hear nothing, like a silent noise?"

"So there was no address there before?"

Someone in the office got a box of outliner pens out of the stationary cupboard:
Idiot: "How much as those?"
Person with pens: "£15 a box."
I: "How many are in a box?"
Pwp: "10."
I: "So about £1.25 each or something?"

I know you takin the p**s but i always think when someone says "you could hear the silence", the only time that's right is if you ever go to a gig or somat similar..when it all goes quiet and (depending on your musical tastes) all you can hear is the buzz from the amps. Which is obliously still a noise...but you get the drift. Permission to stop talkin now, Sir?!! :o

Mel..Cheers for the site link for AV reviews..little technical, but get the gist of who's best.

Madman..Also for wikipeda.. :)

CC..i too need it to be easy to use, for although i'm no expert, i can configure NIS good enough..but..i'm not the only person to use this pc, and simple is best..in a non derogatory way! Also the other thing to weigh up is the simple cost of it...i already have NIS 2004 (which hasn't let me down) bar the subscription...i'd have to fork out for another. Hmmmm

Stick or twist..what a dilema..lol

I've always found the free firewalls to be perfectly adequate. Now I'm protected behind a router using NAT, I only need it to try to prevent unauthoried outbound connections, I wouldn't consider actually paying for one.

While I'm somewhat less impressed with free anti-virus programs, as I still haven't managed to acquire a virus problem they seem good enough for my own needs.

If you are happy with the solution you've got (and don't mind paying for it) why change - Norton's AV still seems to be close to the top performers.

CC..As apposed to payin?? cough hee hee...tut! (?) Shame on you!!

Having tried Norton, F-Prot, Kaspersky & NOD32, I can say that NOD32 is by far the best in terms of the protection it offers, price, the lack of resources used & the speed in which it works.

Norton/Symantec = resource hog, not that efficient IMO
F-Prot = fairly light on resources and reasonably effective
Kaspersky = effective, but very slow & severely hogs resources when set to highest level.
NOD32 = very fast and effective (it picked up 6 virii on my PC that 3yrs of Norton, various online scans and trials of F-Prot & Kaspersky missed).

For firewall I use Sygate Personal Firewall Pro, and no issues here in the last year since I started using it & NOD.
