Do you think they knew

One day before I got to telewest UKO upgrade my line to a 2mb one

Connection Speed
2272 kbps(Downstream)
288 kbps(Upstream)
Line Attenuation
55 db(Downstream)
15.5 db(Upstream)
Noise Margin
16 db(Downstream)
24 db(Upstream)

Do you think they knew I was leaving for telewest

Nothing to do with Telewest. BT upgraded your local exchange, which puts everyone on it onto a 2Mb line (provided their line can handle it). After a few days they inform the ISPs, who throttle the connections so everyone can only download at the speed you pay for (i.e. if you pay for a 1Mb line, you'll only download at 1Mb, even though the line is connected at 2Mb).

Speed tests show 2mb to

also my exchange has had 2mb for a long time

It's because UKO haven't throttled the connection yet.

Everyone connected to the exchange will have their lines upgraded to 2Mb, not just the ones that have paid for it in the past.

Very surprised you can a get a stable 2mb connection with those stats. 43dB is the limit for 2Mb. What does the BT checker say for your line ?

Can anyone tell me how to check my db noise and attenuation?

I have a Netgear router and looked through all the settings and never come across it.

Cheers in advance,
Rare

Our initial test on your line indicates that you may be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides 1Mbps, 512Kbps or 256Kbps download speed. However due to the length of your line the 1Mbps service may require an engineer visit who will, where possible, supply the broadband service.

And my connection was throttled. I was on 1mb before and upgraded to 2mb

just because ur connection says it is 2mbps doesnt mean u will download at 2mbps

do a speedtest and see what results u get

But the point is that it ha sync'ed at 2meg not what speeds they can get, by the looks of things you have a d-link router(could be wrong but it gives the figures just like that) how do your find it is on reliability rindel?

BT must have put in a new copper pair most the way for them kind of figures.
