Does anyone know much about IAP Broadband?

I came across the IAP Broadband site after reading somewhere that they had just completed trials and their site now allows Pre-Registration, I applied to be a tester. Using the same kinda of technology that Tele2.co.uk were using, I was just wondering if anyone had any information on this service, like um people who tested it or summat.

Cheers if you can help
Andy

It looks like it is offering the same service Tele2.co.uk started offering, althought for some reason they include an option to have Wireless 56/112k connection as well as the 512k/1mb wireless connection.

Anyways the site looks a bit pants: IAP Broadband but they have just completed trials, and are looking for people interested in trialing in other regions.

Hi Andrew,

I emailed the company in question regards the wireless product, see below.

I must say the £150 install cost's are sure cheaper than Satellite installation prices, also monthly cost are the same as BT's ADSL Broadband Web link look under Tariff

Anyway the following corrospondance may answer some of your concerns.

Hi there,

I hope you can answer a couple of questions for me directly, or by way of your FAQ page. Satellite providers advise that their setup is not recommended for realtime gaming against another person over the web, also I believe realtime share trading over the net would also suffer from data 'lag'

So my question is, does wireless Broadband suffer the same drawback as satellite in that respect, or is it comparable with adsl delivered broadband..

Thanks,

Hi,

We have a satellite connection here so i can tell you exactly what it is
like. Satellite has a delay whilst the signal is sent into orbit then back
down to earth this is normally around 700ms in practice this can be as long
as 1 second making online "shoot em up" gaming almost impossible.

The delay is really only noticeable with games or voice over IP as most
other applications are not that time sensetive. I would expect online share
dealing to be fully functional over that type of system.

Now with that out of the way, our service is a terrestrial digital wireless
service which is connected into the internet via a dedicated internet
backbone so the service is directly comparable with ADSL under normal
working conditions the latency of the wireless is below 10ms (the same as a
wired network) this can however degrade as the network gets busy (just like
ADSL).

So in short you would have no problems with share dealing in real time,
gaming or even voice over IP using our system.

I hope that when we go live you will find our system to be a distinct
improvement over ADSL.

PS. I know a guy who posts on these forums, who is taking this service at the end of August, so I'll ask him to keep us updated. I'm not prepared to give out his name, because that would not be right without his permission. As he may get pestered needlessly prior to him actually having used it.

cheers mate, thanks for that. As I cannot get BroadBand via ADSL because BT are a bunch of monkeys, and cable is not in my area - wireless broadband is the only way I am going to be able to recieve an ADSL type service sometime before well realisticly - knowing BT - about um 2015!

Now I dont normally advertise websites on here - but just thought some of you mite be interested, if decided to take matters into my own hands - and alert the UK Public to the various other means of receiving UK BroadBand services:

UK BroadBand - The Truth.

Thanks again m8

Hi Andrew,

that's a temporary site -

The service being offered is exactly what it says - aslong as you live in one of the areas highlighted then you will be ok - its scheduled to go live at the end of this month i was told.

And yes - it's a nice change from the usual " sorry no " reply from BT!

I recently contacted IAP Broadband too; through their pre-registration form. They were very helpful, and sent a personal reply.

They've now updated their website so it is much slicker than it was. I just hope they come to the remote parts of Aberdeenshire soon!

I also recieved a email from IAP. Saying quote "I am not sure if you have cable or adsl available if not please let me know and we will try and extend our service to your area." I must say this is a breath of fresh air, actually hearing a provider saying they will try and make broadband available to us. Now lets hope things work out. :D
