Hi all,

Have this 25m monopole mast being constructed 900m from me at the moment, someone has said its a 5g mast which has me very excited, but bit confused that the application is from the home office!?
I believe its to extend mobile signal into dartmoor park, not sure if it for 5g use, and if/who is operating it?

The supporting statement says it's for the (EE operated) 4G emergency services network, so I don't think it'll be providing 5G anytime soon. It's possible they might install their own 5G arrays onto the mast after though, I'm not sure how these agreements work - perhaps someone else knows better.

ahh, okay that makes sense. no way knowing if theyll add to it at later date or after install then. Any idea if the it means itll be supplying normal 4g to the public as well or if its exclusively reserved for emergency channels?

Not a clue mate, I wondered that myself.

According to the published information there are 292 of these sites that the government are funding for the ESN in rural and remote areas where it is not feasible for EE to take on the cost of expanding coverage.

These sites are planned to be added to the Shared Rural Network so should eventually provide coverage for all networks, but there doesn't seem to be any firm information regarding rollout timescales for this.

One would expect EE coverage to go live quite quickly though since they will be installing backhaul for the ESN anyway, but you never can be sure with this sort of project.

Thanks, sounds interesting, I'm EE so with any luck that'll be activated when mast is. I wonder what backhaul infrastructure they need to install and guess they do that before putting the mast up. They've done the civils work and generator/ concrete month or 2 back back but no mast yet.

Annoyingly superfast openreach goes to this area but wayleave was refused to bring it through fields to my house 500m away! So currently using a 4g mast 7km away with outdoor iskra antennas getting upto 80 downloads. Just have line of sight to this mast so hopefully may get a boost for 4g and 5g if it ever gets added on!

Thread resurrection!
Cells have finally been installed on this mast.... No idea if live yet. Line of sight tool, shows it "may" just get line of sight or a small interference, will have trees around it thou.
Just wondering if 4g easily bounces/ reflects over this?
Hopefully will get better speeds it being 800m away Vs the 5km away mast we currently use.
