Does being in a private road make broadband slower?

Is it true that BT/Openreach aren't interested in improving speed for customers like me in private roads? Is there anything I can say to them to make it better?
My speed test this morning gave 5.77mbps download and 0.91mbps upload. My best download result in last 4 yrs was 6.35mbps.
Looking on uswitch streetstats, some people near me get 8 or 9 mbps (as well as 18+ which I assume are with superfast products)
Thank you for any help.

Have you looked to see if you can get VDSL??

Being on a private road doesnt mean slow speeds, you can get slow speeds in lots of places. Be grateful, I have friends who get 200Kbps, and have no hope of getting anything better, at least in the next few years.

I guess this may be an issue of access and cost. Sometimes "private roads" can be difficult for operators to gain approval on when needing to conduct civil works, which may well cause delays and frustrations. But without more information there's not a lot more that can be said.

It's certainly true to say that when a special wayleave or permission is required companies tend to just skip that area, we've turned down houses on private roads before precisely because of this - cable runs past the entrance but has never been put in due to an obstructive landlord not allowing it.

So if you're seeing speed tests from people in adjacent areas who have cable but you can't get it this might be why. There's no cable in your street.

If it's the BT network then unless the cabinet is actually in your street - which seems unlikely due to the above - that can have fibre run to it enabling you to have their "fibre" service without the need for any street works since the last part of the wiring simply uses the same old phone lines you have, it's faster because the fibre is nearer to you (the cabinet). That might be what your neighbours have and is your best option to get better speeds.
