Don't let Fast4 catch you out with T&C's

Hi All, the exit fee is there because we are charged it by our provider. We offer free connection to all customers but in return we must pass on the exit fee that is imposed on us through our contract.

But not that expensive. Your making a profit on people leaving. Unless Fast 4s admin is that inept it costs that much in admin fees.

Whilst I can understand that some people do not like the idea of such a fee it does mean that we are not subsidising users who wish to constantly change providers.

I understand that fully, but thats not the real case here.

Our intention is to provide a quality service at a cost that is sustainable. We will not be yet another provider that falls by the way side because they priced their products to gain market share without any consideration for the costs of their services.

No its not, its to make money. This is proved by all of Fast 4s quite frankly dodgy practices and wording.

If you were customer centered you wouldnt have harvested emails and then spammed people.

A customer centered ISP would have something like 'No 12 month contract, just the activation or migration fee to leave.'

...have I ever told you where such things as truth and forth righteousness are are commonplace?...It's called 'Utopia'...unfortunately I don't think they're B/band capable yet.....

How can you be so grumpy with such a cute kitten avatar, Old Dude?

...I bet you're all fluffy really...

Ahh well that cat has grown somewhat, and isnt so cute and fluffy anymore. The claw marks in the curtains prove that.

Hi, following on from some comments here and elsewhere we have today made some changes to the T&C as below. We have also removed the 3 month minimum term and reduced this to 1 month.

Fast4 have today taken on the comments from their customers and made some changes to the daily operation of the rapidly expanding ISP.

Following several postings on some of the industry bulletin boards, Fast4 has today announced that the fair usage policy which before stated an enormous 500GB limit has been removed completely. In addition people were complaining about the ‘exit fee’ clause in the terms and conditions, this has been adjusted and reduced by £65 if you migrate to Fast4.

Steve Kaye commented “We strive on providing our customers with the best priced services that we can. The exit fees are such that we get charged by our wholesaler. Fast4 does not make any profit out of the exit fees. The reduction of this charge if you migrate to us has been put in place now but only after long and extensive negotiations. We are a totally unlimited service offering free connections and ADSL Max at only £15.95 per month.”

Steve continued “ Being one of the very few in the market place that will do this kind of service for our customers does mean that to continue to operate we need to make a profit. If we consumed this charge ourselves then the monthly fee to the end user inevitably would have to go up. After the 12th month customers can simply leave or migrate without any cost at all. Many companies are now trying to contract customers for longer and longer – we will not do that, but hope that customers will want to stay because it’s a great service at a great price”

"this has been adjusted and reduced by £65 if you migrate to Fast4."...That then means a customer if he she had migrated to you originally would have to pay what? £20? (85 quid being the starting price....reduced by £65 = £20)

But the whole 85 quid would be payable if you sign up and get B/band activation via FAST4?...So just what is the migration charge £11.00? Even at £20 to leave you are making £9 profit out of someone who leaves (presumably because the service isn't what they expected it would be)...

The exit fee for a migration is £20, yes.

We make no profit out of the exit fees. This money is paid directly to our wholesaler.

Who negotiated the deal that forced you to pay them £85 per leaver in the first instance?..Coco the Clown?....Sorry but something just doesn't ring true here:confused:

I was looking at Fast4 As i had there dial up about 4 years ago

If your service is thst good why do people want to leave after a month

Perhaps a higher monthly fee and no cancellation fee would give you just as much profit And happy customers which is a rare thing these days

I like the idea of no long term contract

I will watch with interest

Thinking out loud..."Ofcom made the provision of a MAC...free...*some* ISP's (before 14/2/07) charged £30 for a MAC code (cough cough) ...Standard B/band connection fee is circa £55...£55 +£30 = £85...just coincidental that was the amount Fas4 charged you if you left within 12 months I suppose....Peeps whine about the 'leaving fee' and Fast4 declare it reduced to £20 with the caveat that a customer had to have migrated in to receive the reduced leaving...or could it be a clandestine MAC code fee ? I wonder.....Now if you sign up to have your line B/band enabled...I reckon the ISP would stand to pay what...£55 now if the service isnt what the customer thought it would be and wants to leave witin 12 months..he/she would undoubtedly ask for a MAC code...because they can't be refused because monies are owing...but it would be fair to expect the customer to pay back the £55 connection charge...but the charge levied is still £85...which equates to the connection charge and that leaves a further £30 for what exactly....mmmmmm". :hrmph:

These small ISPs get the blame but they are caught in the middle. As the 'Fast4 Support' pointed out, they don't make any money from it. It is passed on to the wholesaler. Wholesalers have standard contracts for retailers. They don't change it for any single ISP. The contract is not negotiable. It is a take it or leave it situation.

It is really up to OFCOM to make in-depth investigations and based on the whole picture, set standards of practice that is fair to all.

Just wonder how long before speed is compromised for a larger user base of heavy users.

Well, since its not Fast4 as a small company holding the pipe for its user but those users connecting through the pipes of the larger wholesaler EurISP, it shouldn't matter too much, provided EurISP has the bandwidth to cope.

I don't think just because Fast4 has said "unlimited bandwidth" (and are they now the only ISP to say this and not have an AUP in their terms and conditions to say "but you can't use more than 10GB"?) its going to now mean a countdown to slow connections has started...

I think they are being a little short-sighted with unlimited at that price. I think a good cap would be preferable.. mine is 30GB peak/300GB off-peak per month and I'm more than happy with it and I pay more for it :)

yeah! giving unlimited for £16 is asking for trouble!

My ISP, fast.co.uk is very highly rated, very reliable with excellent support and so on but my £20 per month Max connection has a cap of 2 GB. I exceed that a lot but they did not cut me off, choked my banwidth or anything like that. Well, not so far anyways! Fingers crossed!
