Down for everyone, or just me..

Yes, the GFWoC is a PITA; and there is no chance your oyster card will work, 99% of places wont even accept non mainland China issued credit cards.

Hi Mark

I have sorted what my problem is caused by - with Ref to my email to you - Forum freezing after Index page as first post on this thread mentioned - As you can see I got it working by luck - by changing Resolution to 1024 I usually run 800x600 as lot of people still do because other older Progs dont take kindly to it but I cant see it - I have a small screen to start with and Ctrl= mouse scroll isnt appreciated by some older Progs.

I will be going back to 800x600 because it is one way I can keep on Classic Yahoo Webmail and dont want to lose it - e.g. after 30th Oct what then? - Who knows - but I am with Hundreds of thousands that want to keep it Alive - we cant all be wrong

Multiple problems with the BBC again for me, although no other sites appear to be affected this time. It took 3-4 refreshes to get the home page to load, then everything worked for 5 minutes, and now nothing will load again.

Hi Mark

All seems to be back to normal - maybe logging in on 1024 Res. Tuesday may have given me a 1024 Cookie - or maybe someone has been tickling the keyboard behind the scenes, if so Thanks :)

Freaky - back to the same problem again today, and only on the Telegraph site (Checked BBC site - that's fine)

C:\Users\Mark>tracert www.telegraph.co.uk

Yet, it's up for everyone else. Apparently. Most odd.

BBC is working for me at the moment, but Gmail has been playing up for days; that is possibly the GFWoC, although it it throwing several different errors at me, including "no such server", and various "incorrect username/password" errors on both accounts, although one account works more often than the other; usually with the GWFoC you just get a blank page.
Access to Gmail via Thunderbird is pretty much the same, loads of errors and occasionally connecting.

LOL Gmail is now working again.... but the BBC is taking multiple reloads again!!!!!!!

This is starting to remind me of a certain Douglas Adams book, where either the BT phone, or the time machine could work, but not both at the same time!!!!!

This is driving me mad now.

Can I get a quick opinion - is www.poundhost.com up?

Trace dies at the data centre for me. A Client can load it ok.

Tried the "Down for everyone..." site, but, er, that's down... "This Google App Engine application is temporarily over its serving quota. Please try again later. "

Think I've worked this out now. Also explains why the Telegraph site is the one that fails.

I reckon it's the flaky Edimax (3G) router I have. Specifically, I reckon that too many concurrent connections/threads results in some kind of routing table filling up in the router after which no new connections will open.

So it doesn't get on well with sites festooned with IFRAMEs, banners, third party ads and the like.

That also explains a secondary issue which is that now and again the "bridge" between the internal and external networks fails. Dropping then re-establishing the local connection restores it, proving it isn't the external connection and probably emptying said routing tables.

I have a replacement router which is going in later this month so that should answer the matter one way or another.

Lot's of websites down over the last 24 hours after a primary router failed at Level 3, which many ISPs use. Some still seem to be offline this morning but I'm not sure if that's related.

BBC just took 10-20 refreshes and 30 minutes to get to work again :-(
