e-mail saved?

Is e-mail from AOL saved somewhere on the hard drive, even if I delete it? If so, where is the file kept? Can it be permanently overwritten?

According to AOL, they do not keep records of e-mail, and there is no copy anywhere on the hard drive once the e-mail has been permanently deleted.

What's the bottom line here? Thanks!:)

So far as I'm aware AOL UK don't store e-mails on their servers and typically take a "tough luck" kind of stance if you lose yours. So they must be stored somewhere on your hard disk but I don't know where and whether backing up the whole AOL folder would do the trick.

However I do understand that AOL also has a special Saved on AOL email folder inside the client, which when selected can be used to permanently save your messages on AOL's own servers. I think this is the correct process:

1. On the AOL toolbar, click the Read button.
2. Click the Manage Email tab.
3. In the My Email Folders window on the left, click the New, Old, or Sent icon, then click the email you want to save, to highlight it.
4. Click the Save button at the bottom of the Email message window.
5. Select On AOL from the drop-down menu, then click the folder you want to save it into. You can save it to the Saved on AOL folder, or another folder you may have created inside this area.
