Have you tried connecting any other devices except the echodot? Is your phone, laptop etc working with the Three sim?

You tried the other APN for three?

There are 2 APN settings to try, Three.co.uk and 3internet. You can change this in router admin.

Hi Balb0wa,

About a fortnight ago my 2 echo flex devices (Glorified Echo Dots) refused to connect to the net any more, they were fine before.

I asked a friend to take them to try and they connected no problem at all.

My other Amazon devices are all fine, echo show 5, echo show 10 and Fire TV Cube are all fine.

I have tried everything under the sun to get the flex's to connect again but no joy. Just get a 'cannot connect to the network' error.

I'm sure something has happened with 3.

I've also tried both 3 apn's but it makes no difference.

I'm awaiting a Virgin Mobile (EE) sim arriving, so will try that in my CPE Pro 2 router and see if I can get them to connect again.

How long has your dot not been connecting via 3 Balb0wa?

I only opened it a few days ago, won it at Amazon, spent ages trying it with 3, then put the EE sim in, and bingo, connected straight away.

Thanks for your reply, will be interested to see if they work again with the Virgin Mobile sim.

It was very weird, they both got a red light and said they could not connect to the internet both at the same time.

I've reset them umpteen times but they just won't connect now, would love to know what's changed with the 3 connection because my setup has never been altered at all.

Glad I seen your post, makes it more likely it's a 3 issue, although how to fix it is another story.

I'll post again my results when the VM sim arrives.

Cheers.

I've have had this issue with an echo dot and refusal to reconnect.
I have two dots I use in different houses, connected to two different routers a Huawei 525 in one house and a 535 in the other. I use the one Smarty sim taking it between properties.
At first in each house the dot connected perfectly.
When returning to the main house one day (with the 525) I realised the dot was not connected when SHMBO complained and the only way I got it sorted after much wasted time going round in circles was to insert my 'phone sim (Lebara/vodafone) in the router and the dot connected straight away. I reinserted the Smarty sim in the router and the dot reconnected. Connecting the dot to my phone hotspot and then back to the router did not do the trick which I attempted initially but it did prove there was nothing wrong with the dot which as it was "new" I suspected.
This also happened going the other way to the 535 house but by then I knew what to do.
However there was work going on at the mast near me about that time which went on for a while. This work as far as I can see has been completed as the service has been excellent for some weeks now and the last time I returned here to the 525 house the dot connected immediately.
When lockdown allows me to travel I'll know.
This may work for you or not but may point you in the way to a workaround but I would say it is or was a Three issue.

There was work going on here too with refarming 3G to 4G but its finished now, i'll keep trying every couple of days, you never know. Lol

I know this isnt really related to three but it might help. I have always bad trouble getny any echo to connect to to my BT Fixed line. I have also read of other people having problems like this and it seems tk point to a router problem.
Hope this helps, Bubbles 😊

The thing is Bubblesthefish6, the echo flex's have been connected without any problem for over a year.

They both just stopped connecting at the same time 2 weeks ago.

The other Amazon devices are fine. (Show 5, Show 10 and Fire TV Cube)

I've reset the router, tried both 3 apn's and changed the MTU as well, without any luck.

Really a strange one.

When I used BT copper and then FTTC switching off the "Smart setup" in the router/hub sorted the issues I was having connecting stuff. The latest BT router(s) may well be different now though.

Just a wee follow up to my echo flex problem.
I got my Virgin Mobile sim today and popped it into the router, both echo flexes connected first time so its definitely a 3 mess up somewhere.

I popped the 3 sim back in and they still work fine.

Just seems to be setting them up again via 3 that always fails.

Just weird.

But at least I have 2 working flexes again, so happy days for now. 😊

I'm glad it's all working for you now.

Thanks Bubblesthefish6, at least I have another network sim now to set them up with again if it ever happens again.

Still working fine at the moment though, long may it last. 🤞🏻

Been having the same issue all day, trying to setup an echo dot (4th gen). Glad to know I’m not the only one with this issue. Spend 30 mins on the phone to Amazon filing a report , hopefully they can chat to 3 and try to get this fixed.

It's a strange baffling problem CJD2K.

The kitchen echo flex lost connection yesterday again so I thought I'd try a reset and connect it again, but nope no joy whatsoever no matter what I tried.

Removed the 3 sim from the router, popped in the Virgin Mobile sim (Vodafone) and bingo, setup worked straight away.

Popped the 3 sim back in and it's still working fine again.

I have 2 echo flex's, only 1 lost connection this time, but last time it was both at thecexact same time, all's well for now until it happens again.

I'm just glad I have my Virgin Mobile sim to sort out the problem when it happens again. :giggle:

Very strange indeed! Thanks for reporting your solution, at least it’s something until the boffins at 3 and Amazon can figure things out.
I think the most annoying thing is 3 actually provide echo dot’s to new customers on their AI cube plan - surely they’re receiving dozens of complaints a day about these??

I don't really understand why it's just flex's and dots, I have an echo show 5 and 10 and they have always been fine.

What band is your WiFi set to? Amazon devices are very picky. If you make sure your bands are split, it'll connect to pretty much any of the 2.4GHz bands but 5GHz bands it only generally likes the lower bands (38,40). It may connect to some others at times and then be unreliable.

You'll find it to be significantly more reliable if you connect it to 2.4GHz WiFi with a set band and don't change it.
