Echo Dot 4 and Three Internet - Huawei B818

Quick update - I've not heard anything back from Amazon or Three yet, but my echo dot is now reliably connecting to the internet without issues. Would recommend if anyone else is having issues with any other ISPs or devices, phone up the amazon echo helpline. Took about 40 mins to report the issue, and fill out all the details, but it led to the issue getting fixed fairly quickly.

SOLUTION!

This worked for me I hope it works for you.

I had three echo dots all working then they all went off the same time. Countless hours lost making 2.4ghz preferred etc etc

what you have to do if this

apologies I used my iPhone

rename your phone settings / about / NAME OF THE WIFI NETWORK YOU WANT THE ECHO TO EVENTUALLY CONNECT TO

Go to hotspot and make the password exactly the same as the network you want the echo to connect to

turn off the wifi router

set up echo and connect to phone hotspot

once connected turn phone on aeroplane mode

turn wifi router back on and set up echo dot again (holding down dot)

connect to wifi network

mine worked straight away with all three dots

let me know how you get on and I will try to help with further explanations if needed.

thanks
Mat

I think three fixed the problem a while back now Mgreen, have you been having the problem recently again? mine still seems ok now.

Unfortunately the problem remained for a few family members until I passed this across.

id spoken to three, amazon and Huwaei with no such luck.

it seems such an obvious fix but interesting to see three have partnered up with good rather than amazon..

Ah good stuff, anyway I'm sure your tip will come in helpful for anyone still having the rather wrird problem. (y)

I hear this happens quite a lot with BT internet. Did with mine but once I had set up the first one, the rest of them connected no sweat.

I had this problem. Only happened with the Echo Dot 4 though, the 3 connected fine

But yeah, I did the same as the guy above, but I borrowed my family's Sky connection and plugged it into the router, set up my Echo Dot 4, and then put my SIM card back in and the connection was still active

This led me to believe the initial set-up has issues with Three. I also tried a Giffgaff SIM card and set-up worked fine, but swap it out for a Three SIM, and it complains about WiFi

So I had no issues with understanding this was primarily a Three issue, and of course calling them they told me to speak with not only Amazon but Huawei as well. The guy didn't seem interested that a bridged Sky connection and a Giffgaff SIM allowed set-up with no issues, the problem only happened when you try to set-up using a Three SIM

Me too, O2 and Vodafone are an overcrowded mess round here and EE is straight up unreliable. Three did a whole site upgrade at my serving mast so it's lovely and fast all for :)

I know I'm late to the party, but I had a similar issue with a couple of laptops and a huawei ai cube on three. All other laptops and devices connected, no problem, my two oldest laptops connected with no Internet. When using my phone hotspot (also three) everything worked. After an hour of rebooting and fiddling, I found the issue. The router had been configured to auto select the network, I changed it to use 4g only and all laptops connected to the Internet. I'm assuming three must be doing something to the 3g, it would also explain my phone hotspot working as it was 4g.
