Eclipse the rite choice?????

I have just recently signed up for bb with eclipse waiting for setup soon!!! Read through many comments on this forum and reviews looks like a good choice hopefully. Chose the FLEX500 option

Was originally going to go with UKONLINE, but read bad things about them, do u think i made the rite choice??? to be honest if i didnt do my research i probably would have just signed up with BT.

Oh yeah my requirments were basic usage music, sum video bit of gaming decent connection/speed good vaule for money!!

Only flaw i can see with eclipse is that i went for the 12 month deal so i wount have to pay the setup fees, see how things go.

Any1 else using eclipse got any good or bad news bout them???

I have heard nothing but good things about Eclipse so you should be fine. However try and always avoid 12 month contracts in the future

Same here they seem to be very good.

If you don`t want to pay out for a modem and connection fee 12 mths contract is not so bad. I did that with tiscali who get the worst feedback and I had no major problems with them.

I only changed because they could not offer 2mb...

Ps. no isp is perfect ....

If you check Eclipse's T&C's, I think you'll find that you are charged a £47 early cancellation fee if you choose to cancel before the end of the 12 month contract, exactly the same amount as paying for activation, which seem admirably fair to me. You do also have to pay for the otherwise free modem / router or post it back to them at your own cost.

Some other ISPs will charge you for the full 12 months minimum term if you want to cancel early and those are usually the sort of ISPs you would wish to leave early.

no problems wabloin i also asked around using this forum and narrowed my choice down to eclipse500 or aol same price only aol was 1mb but 12 month contract was cast iron and you would pay £45 connection and remainder of contract if u want out early. didnt like this or thier software.

went with eclipse 500 took free modem and connection. before signing up i telephoned eclipse and was told by customer service rep and sales dept that they would charge £47 for connection but it was never heard of for them to ask for modem back unless it was really early on in the first 12 months.

i have been connected about 6 weeks now use email p2p share this with myself and three teenage kids. speed has been constant never logged out never went down was able to connect as soon as modem arrived which was 3 days before connection date. so sit back relax and enjoy

I will be switching to Eclipse (As soon as Broadsurf let my line go)
I'll be going on the Flex 500 same as you.
At the mo 512 is all I can get......But if this MaxADSL cleans my line up any I will be able to flex every now and then. But for me 512 is plenty fast enough.

I signed up with Eclipse a few months ago and have had no problems. £18/month for unlimited 512, with the ability to temporarily speed the connecting up to 1mb for 5p/hour - it's a bargain!

It's also reliable!

Thanks for all the replies. Quick question what are the conditions/restriction involved with the unlimited no cap service??? coz some things sometime sound too good to be tru...............and they often are!!!

One more question when i get broadband im gonna buy a wireless ADSL router (probably linksys), what will this mean on the speed if im sharing the broadband with my brothers laptop???

yeh my activattion day was a friday modem arrived wednesday before.
i connected it to the pc so as to be ready for activation on the friday.
put software in and just for a laugh ran diagnostic program suddenly up on the screen was a message ballon saying speedtouch connected at 2.2mb and the internet connected (twin monitor) icon appeared in my task bar.
it depends on when bt activate the line.

I got connected.........seems like i mite have been connected b4 my activation date, but i was using a phone extension to my room downstairs and after doing a little research and some guess work found out i needed a new extenstion to support my broadband.................went out got that and as by magic connected and at 2.2mb...............woohoo!

yes a wireless router will allow you to share connectivity between computers, but my recommendation is not too buy linksys.

I have had a bad experience with a linksys router (too many issues to be bothered to list), and there are many people that have had nothing but issues. Just because they are owned by Cisco, do not be fooled.

I now have a netgear router ;)

I would add to that if you are using static IP's try and avoid the crap netgear routers eclipse are flogging off! If you do buy one make sure you downgrade the firmware, otherwise you will have serious problems.

guess you guys are rite i brought the wireless router b4 activation and am trying to get it working (model WAG354G linksys)! CANT GET THE ROUTER TO CONFIG  keep on getting error msg saying router unable to config resst router by pressing reset button for 5 seconds, erm.............................i would but the damn thing dont have a reset button  Has anyone else had this kind of problem???
Just sent out an e-mail to linksys support (hope that helps), and 1more thing while im in a complaing mood how come the site (linksys) only offers quick answer support q&a for american customers only :crap:

congrats welcome to hastle free broadband

i was worried about connection using a plug in extention, but connected filter to main bt box for digital phone and second filter at end of extention and i have bb modem connected in adsl side of filter 2 and dial up modem link plugged into phone side of filter 2 as backup and it seems to work fine. also shows 2.2mb connection but if you do a speed test at bt.com or adsl guide sites then you will get the true spped reading i usually get around 530 to 640k which is fast enough

sit back now and enjoy

Re: Linksys WAG354G Wireless Router

I am currently using a Linksys WAG354G Wireless Router for my Eclipse connection without problem. Since purchasing it in late December 2005 no reboots due to connection failures etc. have been necessary. I would regard the WAG354G to be a much better router than my previous D-Link (both relating to reliability and user friendlyness).

When the WAG354G is working properly it is an excellent piece of kit. I am sure Wabloin will find the same once the problems he is facing are sorted out.

Did you get it working straight away using the wizard setup or did you do a manual configuration of the router??

And did you leave the speedtouch adsl modem on your system or did you de-install all previous modems???

Eclipse is the right choice !

Wabloin,

Rest content, Sir: Eclipse is indeed the right choice. I signed up to their Flex 500 service with a 1 year contract and have no regrets about doing so. They provide an efficient service with good technical support, based in the UK (unlike some of the others out there). I am not one to make rash decisions - spent a few months researching lots of ISPs, reading lots of reviews. Unfortunately many of the review sites only recommend a few of the the big names, most of which have received dreadful (sometimes appalling) reviews on the ispreview website. After reading users comments on this site I decided to steer well clear of the big guys. I have no experience of broadband before signing up with Eclipse being my first provider I am convinced that I made the right choce.
