Ee 5g modem info

Hello,

I have Googled and scanned trough the form so apologies if I have missed this being answered already.

I have just got ee's 5g smart hub product number hh20c. I have been unable to find any information on the router and was hoping someone could share some more details.

Mainly interested on what internal antennas it has and if it has mu-mimo or ofdma
And what transfer speeds the WiFi supports.

Is it the one above Duckz?

It's a new one to me, they seem to have moved on from their soap dispenser. (Zyxel NR5103)

Oh and welcome along to the forums.

Hopefully someone can enlighten us soon. 😊

Yep that's the one!! I noticed they have changed models but I cannot find any information on what it is.

EE have previously used Alcatel units (branded up as EE), so that would be my guess

Edit: or Askey... Too many companies beginning with A.

Looks 3d printed, doesn't it? 😁
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder of course, but it's not nearly as nice as the old beloved soap dispenser. 😊

Think you could well be right Gavin, a lot of Alcatel routers have their model numbers beginning with HH.

EE use Askey Router Devices for Business Customers, normally 5G Outdoor Routers badged either BT or EE.

That looks like the one!! Thanks for that.

I don't think it's the ugliest thing ever however luckily for me it's going to live in the loft as high as possible to get best signal.
As long as it works, that'll do fine Duckz. (y) 😊

Hey all, sorry, I know it can be annoying when new members post what will probably seem like simple questions but could someone advise me on this router.

I'm looking to go with EE for 5G broadband (rural area, only network with signal, usually get about 15mbps on copper broadband), and from their website it looks like this is the router they send out now. I can get a good 5g signal outside that's 100mbps+, but as I'm in an old cottage with thick walls the speed is much lower inside, so would need an outside antenna.

Does this new EE HH20C support an external antenna?, Looking at the ports on the back I can't see any that look like antenna holes that other routers have. If it does could you suggest any that are compatible?

If it doesn't, would I able to take the SIM provided and buy another router that does support an antenna (any recommendations for router and antenna would be very welcome)?

No Antenna Ports on that model, Just buy an EE SIM only, then source your own Router, a lot of 5G Routers with External Antennas, the Ports only work on 5G Band n78, so make sure you can get n78 in your area first, then decide on a Router.

Thanks really appreciate the advice. It's not the easiest to check on iOS, but when I run a 'field test' on my iPhone outside it seems to be using band 28 (if I'm reading it right), so it looks like it I wouldn't be able to go with an extra antenna.

I've had look at your Post Code area for EE and no you don't have any n78 5G Coverage anywhere near, only n1 and n28, so this could rule out quiet a few 5G Routers that only use n78 Band only for External Antenna use.

The Zyxel NR5301 uses an All Bands External Antenna but then you need to source a good quality External 4x4 Mimo Antenna and decent Coaxial Cable for the 4 Ports which would up the budget, or another option would be to source an Outdoor 5G Router running a single cable POE that way not have to worry about External Antenna and Cables and spend the saved budget on a decent internal WiFi Router something like the ZTE MC7010 would probably fit the bill.

Either way try and get the Antennas or Outdoor CPE high as poss above the Roof Line so you can swing it 360 degrees during setup.

Last thing if possible is to try and source your devices Firmware, and Network Badged Free if you can.

Thanks, do you know if the Zyxel 5103E would work as well?, It’s trickier than I’d thought to get the band specs for 5G routers. I can’t seem to find any 5301 available to buy.

For an external antenna would the ‘Poynting 4x4 5G XPOL-1’ work it looks like it supports 698Mhz - 3800Mhz, and googling it nr28 is 700Mhz?
