EE 5GEE 2021 Router

Hello,

Hoping someone who knows more than I can help explain the benefit of this router have 4 TS9 antenna connectors?

I have just brought home the router and order an external antenna (which has 2 cables to connect). Would I be smart to purchase another antenna (maybe once I have tested the first one) to get higher speeds? Would this be best facing the same mast, or a different one to 'combine' the signal?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Have you asked EE support?
Do the aerial slots have any sort of labels?
If could be the router requires 4 aerials for 4x4 mimo.

Not a lot on the label front. The router came with an annoying lack of information. I had to Google what the connectors were as there was nothing in any leaflets.

I'll see what this antenna does to the connection tomorrow, and then see of it's worth doubling up or adding some small rabbit ears to the other two.

It's likely the router already has decent internal antennas. What's the performance currently?

Currently getting ~130mb down ~40mb up on 4G (which is why I'm wanting and antenna to try and get 5G).

It's pretty good so far.
Before you start spending on antennas, if you take the router outside (the windows) or in the loft, do you get that juicy 5G at all? If not, there's a good chance an aerial won't help.
Are you sure you are in a 5G area? Did you check your post code in the EE coverage checker?

EE coverage map is too optimistic. You may be on the fringe currently and the device is selecting 4G+ off the nearest mast. If you add antennas it could pick up a weak 5G signal only to provide a worse performance than your 4G+.

EE still differentiates between 4G and 5G SIMS so as Lucian says you need to confirm that you can actually get 5G (SIM and signal).

I now have a EE 5G SIM but have only just started testing. Early view in my area is 5GEE is only good near the mast and drops quickly to 4G like speeds further away. Most disappointing is that the upload drops drastically sometimes to 2/3 Mbps.

Last week a local Cornerstone mast was upgraded with 5G facing South and East. My VM (Vodafone) SIM provided 260/75 and while this fell with distance it didn't drop off anything like EE. Shame it won't reach my house.

Thanks both. I'll be able to return the antenna if it doesn't give any benefit, so I'll try it out and see what happens. Either way, happy getting 100-130mb/s on 4G for now.

I am indeed on the 'edge' of a 5G covered area. My phone is temperamental as to whether I get it or not. I would be nice to double the speeds I am getting now, but not holding out any hope just yet. Hopefully EE come and upgrade the mast that is literally round the corner from me soon.
